Question I have never had shots?! - November 15th 2011, 09:54 PM

Hi,
I'm 15 years old and I still haven't got any shots. Is it bad? Good? I'm healthy but I don't know if I'll ever get a disease. I'm just looking for thoughts, because I know for fact Teenhelp isn't professional.

LUCKY!!! Although, it does help prevent diseases that could get worse over time. I would talk to your doctor about this? And if your scared, they really aren't that bad. Before the shot your freaking out saying MOMMY WHY ARE YOU MAKING ME DO THIS and then right after your feeling really embarrassed and that you were acting like a baby haha. Its really not that bad.

When someone apologizes enough times for something they'll never stop doing I think its fearless to stop believing them. I think its fearless to say "Your NOT sorry" and walk away.
I have died everyday waiting for you, darling don't be afraid I have loved you for a thousand years. I'll love you for a thousand more <3

Hahahaha yeah I guess I'm lucky. I don't cause my mom doesn't let me. My previous aunt when she was a baby she died from baby shots and I look like her, so my mom was afraid I would die like her. Maybe I'll get some when I'm older so I can travel Yeahhhh good idea I should talk to my doctor... ;o Thanks a lot ♥ Shots seem scary.... I hope I don't scream.

Since you haven't had them when you were young (a time when, if you contracted a disease, it was more likely to be fatal), I wouldn't rush out and get them now just for the sake of it.

Unless there is a high risk of you coming into contact with a particular disease, I personally wouldn't have the jab for it (but I must stress that this is my opinion and I can't make the decision for you).

If, however, you are potentially going to be coming into contact with a particular disease, then I would advise that you get vaccinated (but again, it's up to you). So yes if, in the future, you decide to travel, it would be worth looking into which diseases are prevalent in which countries (e.g. malaria) and then protecting yourself.

Of course go and talk to your doctor, but be aware that part of their role is to encourage vaccinations, so they are going to tell you that they are necessary, even when they may not be (and when I say "necessary", I mean that there is a good chance you will come into contact with the disease and your body will need to "make use" of the vaccine). So bear that in mind.
