What could this be? -
December 5th 2011, 01:22 PM
Just want to know what this sounds more like to you.. I know you're not doctors, just wanna know.. I have a phobia of the dentist ~ so I haven't been yet.
+ It's a small red lump at the top of my gum , like where my cheek is.. + There is a white patch underneath it on my gum. + Lump has been there for about 3-4 months. + Lump has possibly caused the tooth below it to snap in half. + It doesn't hurt but it's uncomfortable at that side of my mouth. + That cheek is more inflated than the other. + Difference in way my teeth are when clenched. I have to adjust it. I wanna know if you've ever experienced anything like this.. what happened etc. I am really scared of losing teeth, so I wanna get it fixed quick, just don't wanna panic too much when I get there [i get panic attacks] ![]() |

There isn't much information to go on and without seeing it, this leaves several possibilities.
The white patch underneath is likely due to loss of blood circulation. I suggest lightly massaging around that area. This will help with swelling the bump may be causing, which will also take care of the inflammation of your cheek. It could be an abscess, which could be a benign or malignant tumor. Or it could be an infection. Now, definitely go to the dentist asap. Would you rather possibly lose your teeth and have decaying gums (all possible depending on what the bump is) than go to the dentist? If they need to do anything, they have to ask your permission first. Almost always, you are awake during procedures and numb so you know what is happening but do not feel anything. And you can even ask for a parent or guardian to come in with you for comfort. So you have gray hair and you're only 26
that's just another reason I love you... ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Ok...don't worry yourself over the comment above. The likelihood of it being cancerous is pretty damn low. Oral cancer usually happens in more men than women and in those over 40. You're a female and under 40. Don't get hooked up on that one just yet!
The lump could be any of these: Abscess Bacterial Infection Excessively Hard Toothbrushing Medications Odontoma Poor Oral Hygiene Trauma to the Mouth and/or Gums 9 times out of 10 it's simple things. Like the above causes. My advice? See a doctor/dentist. |

I was not saying this is likely. I am just saying it's something abnormal so it needs to be checked out and if it could be something bad then it's best to get it checked immediately. It is definitely unlikely it is something as serious as an abscess. Also, I realize the end of my post sounded rude. Did not sound that way in my head! I was basically trying to say what I said above "if it's bad, it's best to get checked and treated asap".So sorry if I caused the OP to worry! So you have gray hair and you're only 26

Thanks so much both of you ~ I am going to go to the dentist. I google imaged early oral cancer and it doesn't look like what i have anyway. - the white patch scared me though.
I brush my teeth twice a day and mouthwash.. don't get why my mouth is in such a state Will go to the dentist asap ~ ^__^

Teeth re tricky. I have had oral hygiene but I broke a tooth on Thanksgiving and it might be due to a cavity
Have to wait to make some money before I go :P But point being - it happens even if you take all precautions. It may not even be due to lack of hygiene. Let us know what happens ![]() PS: I'm glad it doesn't look like oral cancer! So you have gray hair and you're only 26

^ Thanks, will post an update when I get it fixed - let you guys know what it is! Hope it's nothing to worry about but you've all put my mind more at ease and the spot has reduced in size, going to start taking ibuprofen for the swelling while I wait for an available appointment.
