I need to lose weight -
December 13th 2011, 03:56 PM
Today I had to go clothes shopping as I had like, 5 pieces of clothing which fit me. I finally have clothes that fit me now
Annoyingly a new winter wardrobe which fit me cost me £60 -____- I need to lose weight. This is getting silly. I admit, I eat too much. It's all the chocolate, Mcdonald's and sandwiches I eat. I had to buy skinny jeans which are 3 sizes bigger than I wore 2/3 years ago. I just need to eat healthier and... walk up the stairs to my college class instead of using the lift Any advice on suddenly switching to a healthy diet? I think I'll start in the new year. It can be my new year's resolution. Edit: I just checked Wii fit and it turns out I am now overweight -____- So, it's not just me being paranoid anymore. ![]() |

First of all, anything which can say if you are overweight, underweight, obese, or average is most likely going by BMI. BMI is NOT an accurate way to determine how healthy of weight you have. You should take into consideration how much body fat you have, which can then determine how much exercise you need to do and how much weight to lose.
I wouldn't trust anything other than your doctor to determine this, as there are some false findings on the internet. Either way, don't suddenly switch to any diet. Instead, gradually switch out some foods. If you switch it all at once, you will crave the foods you used to eat and not want the good food which can still taste great! Definitely get some FRESH fruits and vegetables. Canned still has extra ingredients that you don't want. Also, go with smaller portions. We don't need a full plate of Spaghetti or a full plate of salad, an entree, and dessert. That's just too much for us to be healthy. Instead, split food with a friend when going out. Or order just an appetizer and some soup instead of the full three courses plus sides. At home, use smaller plates so you don't feel you have to fill the large plate. Eat with others when you are able to, because this helps you realize if they are done, then you should likely be done too. Again, LIKELY. But if they gobble food like it's air, then take your time Also, don't do anything when you eat. We tend to zone out on what we are doing and still manage to shovel food in our mouths until it's gone. So, eat with nothing going on around you. You might find that you're full or almost full before you normally are. Try eating a large breakfast and then smaller meals during the day. Smaller meals can help keep you motivated throughout the entire day. Also, whole grains are so much better for you! For meat, eat lean. You don't want animal fat. So lean meat and skinless poultry. Also, for dairy use non-fat or low-fat dairy products. Get Skim milk, though you can use 1% if you need more of the 'milk' flavor. Fish are also a great item to eat with several health benefits. Hope this helped some! So you have gray hair and you're only 26
that's just another reason I love you... ![]() ![]() ![]() |

If it uses BMI it's not entirely accurate anyway, it's more a measure of your risk of developing health problems due to your weight than a measure of what your "right weight" is. Suddenly switching to a healthy lifestyle is better than suddenly switching to a poor one. You will have cravings in the beggining, but if you resist they will eventually go away and you won't even want the unhealthy food anymore. Replace it with fruit, vegetables, whole grains, low fat dairy and fish/lean meats and nuts and drink water or milk instead of soda or juice (although a little bit of juice is okay). Also, if you're going to lose weight make sure to do it safely and for health reasons and not to fit into a certain clothing size or to fit a societal standard.

I honestly wouldn't worry too much about muscle weighing more than fat with me
I'm 99% sure it's because of my unhealthy diet. Thanks <3 I tend to skip breakfast and then eat crap food throughout the day -____- I also eat when I'm bored so I need to stop that as well. I just ate pasta and salmon so I'm pretty sure that's good

I just suggestion slowly switching over because I tried to stop eating all the foods I liked and it was torture. So I ended up going on a huge binge and it didn't work out :P So if you have awesome self-control, then go for it by all means!
Or if you are like me where desserts just look too appetizing...ween yourself off them haha. Kate is right that eventually the cravings will stop. I just need to learn better self-control. ![]() Pasta is fine as long as you include other things in your meals. Also, whole grain pasta is healthier. Adding vegetables in your pasta can also make it healthier. So you have gray hair and you're only 26
