Foot cramp ? - January 4th 2012, 07:00 PM

My feet keep cramping to the point where it is painful to walk and that I literally cannot move my foot. I used to get cramp in my feet about once a week or something. So I'm pretty used to cramp in my feet. But now my feet seem to be cramping up to 3 times a day sometimes more. I know foot cramp can be caused by high salt levels ect but I have cut down on things with high salt content. Is there anything I can do /try to stop my feet cramping this much, I know seeing my Dr is probably the obvious answer and I do plan to see my Dr if this continues but for the moment is there anything I can do/try to stop or ease my feet cramping this much ?

This happens to me allll the time! I don't really know what to do to prevent it, though, but what helps me to stop it from being cramped is ice and rolling it out on like a baseball, tennis ball, or fieldhockey ball, or something similar to that--it helps to relax the muscles in your feet.

You need more potassium.

This is outrageously incorrect.

Increase salt intakes. That's not just the sodium (Ie, table salt) but you also need the magnesium, calcium and potassium which should be coming with a healthy diet. Trying to increase intake of any specific one salt is not the way to do it. Get some supplements, alter your food intake slightly, make sure you are getting the right minerals you need in your diet.

Also, ensure you are hydrated. 2L-3L of water a day.

Yogi is correct. It's actually the opposite. Foot cramps can be caused by LACK OF SALT. Not to say you should eat a diet of nothing but salt, but eating a healthy and balanced diet with some salty foods is a good way to go.

Of course, water. Water can help prevent cramps and several other conditions.

Also, stretch the muscles. So flex your tops upwards and hold them there as long as you can. Try to not put a lot of pressure on your feet. And yes, see a doctor since it is causing you significant pain.
