Swollen gums
This morning on my way to work, I noticed my gums are swollen on the bottom left side. I ate something just yesterday, and afterwards my teeth hurt, but I'm not sure it's related to that. Anyone have any idea why my gums might be swollen, but just on the one side? I'd like to add that I'm a smoker (cigarettes). Not sure if it's relevant, but I thought I'd throw it out there anyway.

Give me some ideas. Not sure if I should be worried and visit a doctor, or if the swelling will go down by itself.

Just through what I've had myself, it could just be a little piece of food that is stuck somewhere in your gums. It happens to me all the time with popcorn! Try flossing in the area where it's swollen then brush really well and see if that helps :)

When you have swollen gums, definitely don't brush hard. Do small, soft movements around that swollen area, almost massaging it. If it doesn't go away in a few days, then I'd consider seeing someone.

You may have had some food become lodged between your teeth or in your gums. Try buying some antibacterial mouthwash and use that. When brushing the area rub your finger from the bottom of the swelling up towards your teeth. You may be able to push out the piece of food.

If the issue continues then i'd suggest going to your dentist! You may have an abscess/infection building up under one of your teeth. <3

As others suggested, it could be something lodged in your gums. It could also be you scratched your gums with whatever you ate yesterday.

I suggest flossing (lightly as possible). If it gets something, great. If not, try mouth wash which can help kill any bacteria growing under your gums. Then take a finger and, in circles, massage the sore area. Drinking cold water or sucking on ice cubes can help reduce the swelling as well.

If it continues or gets worse after two days, see a doctor as it may be an infection.
