Is it bad to have a bath twice a day? - February 19th 2012, 11:49 AM

I have a bath twice a day (once in the morning and once in the night) I don't wash my hair twice a day, I wash that every other day.

My mum's telling me to stop as it's bad for my skin :| How? Is it? :|

I just don't like smelling and the bath in the morning wakes me up and the bath in the night helps me sleep. I would have a shower in the morning but our shower has broke.

I sometimes bath twice a day since it's relaxing and helps a lot. I'm not entirely sure how it can be considered 'bad' since you're only soaking in water and nice smelling soap.

However, I'm not sure if the chemical things in the soap could be a bit damaging over time.

I think that it can make your skin feel a bit funny, but really it's just water. Sometimes if the bath is really long you get elephant skin but that usually goes away quite quickly. I suppose you could be washing away the healthy oils and stuff, a bit like if you wash your hair too often, but you could use a moisturiser after bathing which might help.

I think it would just be drying if anything. Some moisturizer or body butter should fix that up though

"As it turns out, showering or bathing daily, while it may make us more socially acceptable, wreaks havoc on something hilariously called the horny layer. Hot water, soap and abrasive surfaces strip off the horny layer, exposing living cells to the elements. The most important thing to do to keep the skin healthy is to preserve the horny layer. There's no magic number of showers each week, though it's generally agreed that the number would fall somewhat shy of seven. When you shower, use warm or cool water and a mild soap (if at all), and rehydrate the horny layer by rubbing on some moisturizer afterward. Once you've cleaned up, you'll want to make sure you air dry."

That's all I really know about it. I wouldn't say it's bad, but it isn't really necessary.

I think it just mightn't be great for your skin if you're using gels/soaps each time, as well as the hot water. But I do understand how you feel ~ it is nice to have a bath at night and in the morning!! If you wanted to avoid damaging your skin you could maybe have a quick kind of splash in the morning and a more relaxing one at night??

I don't think it would be "bad" for your skin. I mean obviously if you're using scalding hot water every time, it could possibly do some damage over a long period of time but the only thing that bathing twice a day would do that I can think of is that it would dry your skin out. But like you said, just moisturize

I take a bath twice a day sometimes. I just wouldn't make them really long.

Maybe she doesn't want you wasting the water bill? There is nothing wrong with bathing twice, but once is just fine. Unless you go out to battle everyday, then once a day bathing is alright.

It could be drying, plus honestly fresh water isn't an unlimited resource, so it may not be the best environmentally.

This thing about having a bath twice a day being damaging to your skin is another one of those crap myths that spread over the internet. If you want to see proof that it doesn't damage your skin... look to champion olympic swimmers whom I'd bet easily over spend half their day in the water sometimes.

More likely that your mum wants to cut back on the water bill. Most people shower twice a day which uses a lot less water, rather than having a bath twice. Taking showers is usually a lot faster too.

"I don't care about politics"
Then politics doesn't care about you either. Truth. You've got to make your voice heard, if you want to be listened to. But that's too logical for some people, so let me go a step further. Not making your voice heard, leaves other people free to hijack it by speaking on your behalf, even if they don't actually give a shit about you. That's politics. So, make your voice heard. That's not a quote from anywhere. That's just me.

Haha no, there's absolutely nothing wrong with bathing twice a day. I do that every day. On weekends I may bathe more than twice a day hahaha.

True/ Funny story; last year I got a second hot water tank for my birthday hahahaha. Everyone in my family bathes a lot
