How to soothe a sore throat? - February 19th 2012, 04:34 PM

So I have mononucleosis and my throat is in a lot of pain. It doesn't help if I drink water, but eating seems to help a bit.
What are ways you guys help reduce the pain of a sore throat? It's pretty painful

Chamomile tea with honey instead of sugar always worked for me.

Hey,

I'm not sure if you have things like throat lozenges, but they seem to work for a lot of people to help sooth throats.

Ohh my throat is very sore too, lots of sympathy. If you have lozenges like strepsils that can be a great help. Make sure to have plenty of fluids and sleep to drive it away. In the short term, tea with honey can apparently be very helpful. Also.....ice-cream (preferably vanilla.) I'm not a massive ice-cream fan but this really does make it feel a bit better.

Feel better love!!x

I find that honey really helps with sore throats and it's even better if you add it to some warm tea

Here's a list of things I'd suggest:
-Ice cream- any flavor though vanilla would be best,
-throat lozengers- like strepsils,
-probiotic yoghurt or natural yoghurt.
-honey and lemon
-Ice drinks,
-Milkshakes,
-gargling on salt water,
- soluble paracetamol (fantastic for sore throats!)
-soups

and that's all I can think of at the moment to stop the pain! Now as for those pus spots which you get with mono I would suggest having one slice of plain toast each day or a cracker. It will hurt but make sure you follow it with one of the above! I do hope you feel better soon and take things easy xx

Definitely a warm tea and honey for me. That's one of the best things I can do when I have a sore throat. The tea helps your body relax, also has some amazing qualities to it, and the honey coats your throat, making it less irritated.

Be careful if you have ice. If you chew on it, be sure to chew it up real fine or it can scratch your throat and cause more pain.

When I had mono I found the only thing that could make my throat bearable was sipping orange soda (no idea why). Ice cream helped a little as well (it was so swollen I couldn't eat solids and hot food hurt too bad)

You could try tea or some throat lozenges-the type that I have tried is cepacol throat lozenges with pain numbing relief.

Sore throat sprays have done me wonders, this is what I always use when I have a sore throat:
