Pain when I breathe - April 13th 2012, 05:18 PM

Im just making a quick thread from my phone while at work because this is bothering me. I've been having horrible lower back pain for the past three days (like on a scale of 1-10 for pain I would say an 8) and now today I'm having horrible pain whenever I breathe around my left collar bone area and the left side side of my abdomen.
I have no idea why. I've also been very nauseated and vomiting for the past two mornings.

If it matters I take Azathioprine, Lithium, and Tegretol every day.
I've also been having some slight problems with my legs going limp for a few secs at a time but I don't think its related.
Any answers are appreciated.

Well since nobody seems to have known what was wrong with my first post.
I'd like to add that since this morning all the skin on the bottom of my right foot has died and is falling off (and looks kind of gross).

Rick, call your doctor! Whatever these symptoms are, they sound pretty significant..call the doc and explain what it is and hear what he has to say.

Whenever you have stuff going on that is extreme, that lasts a few days, and/or that you cannot logically figure out, you should always call the MD and have them check it out, especially if you're on a lot of medications and have an underlying medical condition(s).

C'mon, you know all this...

Deffinatly go see a doctor, this doesn't sound good at all!

But I do have a question, why didn't you go to the hospital sooner?- Anyone would be really worried after having back pain and the breathing would have gone to the hospital sooner...

I've said it once, I've said it twice, I've said it a thousand fucking times
That I'm OK, that I'm fine, that it's all just in my mind
But this has got the best of me, and I can't seem to sleep
It's not 'cause you're not with me, it's cause you never leave

I'll go to my doctor, but the reason I don't go to the hospital is because I would be waiting there for 6 or 8 hours and then when they look at my charts and see I'm mentally ill they have a tendancy to treat me differently, not listen to me, and talk down to me.

I just wanted some ideas before I went to my doctor.

ERs suck and do tend to treat mentally ill differently, but this is SERIOUS and they should see that.

Skin dying on your foot means there is a severe infection which could cost you your foot, but even your life.

Have you had any cuts recently? Any red lines on your body? It sounds like you may have an infected cut which could cause your breathing issues and back pains, and the dead skin.

Or even a blood clot from a trauma.

No matter what it is, it's bad and you need to be seen IMMEDIATELY. I hope by now you have seen your doctor though.

I think I figured out what this probably is, but I'm going to run it by my doctor to be sure.
I think it may just be arthritis but who knows.

Re: Pain when I breathe - April 17th 2012, 06:16 AM

I have just three quick questions. First, is the pain from the left collarbone area all the way down to the left abdominal area or is it only localized at those two points? Second, is it painful or harder to breath when you lie down? Last, did you have a recent injury to the area where the skin is dying on your foot? Pleurisy could explain the pain, difficulty to breath, while vomiting and nausea would likely be due to an infection. Unfortunately, it cannot explain the quickly dying skin on your foot. The only thing that comes to mind for that is an infected area on your foot, possibly from a cut. From the sounds of it, it's not a run-of-the-mill scab on your foot but I cant even begin to guess what it could be without knowing how it looks, although if it is noticeably different, any doctor with a half a brain would recognize it probably is not due to any of the side-effects from your medications. If it begins to turn dark quite quickly, then don't bother with a family doctor.

It is just localized to those areas, its not harder to breathe when I lie down, but it doesn't hurt quite as much if I sit down. I have had no cuts at all to my foot, I just woke up Sunday morning to find the skin was dying and peeling off.

After looking it up I'm pretty sure the nausea and vomiting is from my Azathioprine.

In that case it likely is not pleurisy, bronchitis, pneumonia, etc... . In your previous post, the skin on your foot seemed alarming. If it's a large area of skin, then I'd ask the doctor about that, especially if it's on the sole of your foot and not on the heel.
