Drinking alone? - July 7th 2012, 08:10 PM

Does anyone find this weird? I've been drinking a few glasses of wine on my own lately. I'm hardly getting "pissed" just a bit tipsy. I just like wine I'm a little bit tipsy right now.

My friend told me to stop in case I become it's "worrying" I don't really see why :/ I'm not addicted. I'm not drinking because I'm depressed either, I'm drinking because I like it.

I mean, I'm 21 and if I want to drink wine on a Saturday night whilst watching anime I should be able to :')

There's nothing wrong with having a drink by yourself.
Getting drunk by yourself, on the other hand, is a bit pathetic, sad and it shouldn't happen.

I don't see anything wrong with it; it's not like you're getting black-out drunk, it's just a few drinks.

Sorry I couldn't be there, I was tied to a rocking chair.

Re: Drinking alone? - July 13th 2012, 04:25 PM

Plenty of people have a couple of glasses of their alchohol of choice during down time.
My mum comes home from teaching all day and has a glass of wine while she does her marking

Just keep an eye on the amount and frequencey of your drinking. This is a great site about a healthy amount of units men/women can consume.

Triggering* calorie content of wine, be warned!

I'm not sure how large your glasses of wine are, but it sounds like you'd be just over your limit for 1 day.

Aslong as your happy with your drinking habbits and it's not affecting your health or behaviour, no worries.

Plenty of people do that. As long as it's not interfering with your life then I wouldn't worry about it.

Sometimes I'll have a beer or two on a hot day after cutting the grass or something. I see nothing wrong with responsible drinking although habits can lead to addictions in the long run. Life is about balance just be reasonable and you'll have nothing to worry about.

I drink alone most weekends. I don't think there is anything wrong with having a couple of drinks on your own whilst watching a film, its when you drink all the time on your own to get drunk is when it becomes a problem. (This I do sometimes but not all the time)

Re: Drinking alone? - July 17th 2012, 03:02 PM

See, here's the thing, drinking is by all means a form of recreation. It's "fun" in some way. It also has addictive qualities. Drinking because you're upset is one reason people become alcoholics, but drinking out of habit/boredom are also ways to develop an addiction.

It's totally fine and normal to drink at home. There's nothing wrong with it. However I would be careful to how much you are consuming, and avoid making it a habit.

Habitual drinking, especially at night can lead to problems, such as:
- Difficulty sleeping at night. If you're used to falling asleep with a light buzz, it's going to be harder to sleep without it.
- Weight gain. Wine has calories in it, and once you cut it out your body is still used to consuming more calories (because of the ones the wine added to your diet) if it becomes a habit you main gain a fair amount of weight once you stop.
- Putting your bodily functions on a schedule. My grandmother would have a beer after dinner at exactly 6:30 every night. By doing so she would pass the fluid just before bed. However once she stopped drinking at that time of night, she would find her bladder was very irritable (Basically she would feel like she needed to pee for hours.) This may manifest in other ways, for example you may get a craving at a certain time of day, or you may become irritable if you are not "buzzed" during a time when you usually are.

It's worth noting a habit is totally different from addiction though. I hardly see you becoming a raging alcoholic, but habitual drinking is still an issue.

Anyhow, a once in a while thing is totally fine though. I went on a bit of a rant, didn't I?

I did the same thing as well. I did it because I have mental health problems or when I am in high levels of stress. My psychiatrist told me to stop because if I keep doing I might turn into an alcoholic also it's illegal for me to drink I am only 16 and where I live you have to be 19 to drink so he doesn't want me to get myself into legal trouble.

Other than it being a habit; I'd say drinking alone is perfectly fine. I also do it at time because I find it pretty refreshing.

Having a couple refreshing glasses of wine when your alone shouldnt be a problem! But I wouldnt suggest making a real habit of it or getting stinkin' drunk by yourself... thats not a good thing!

There is actually a small bottle of watermelon schnapps calling my name right now. Lol. Its a TINY shot sized bottle, but I know I dont need those extra calories tonight and me and my bf are trying to get pregnant! Alcohol + unborn baby= BAD IDEA!!!
