Question positive or negative??? - April 10th 2009, 09:12 PM

so I've drank, tried weed, self harmed, punched walls and smoked. all of these i classify as coping stratagies. but then I'm told that they're negative coping stratagies and so are bad.

So what the f**k are positive ones???

any ideas anyone?

ps sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

positive ones would be like: talking it out, drawing, painting, or dancing. anything that is not going against ur body it a positive way to handle it.

Positive strategy would be anything that is not self-harming or in general is beneficial to one's whole being rather than harming one part of it.

Exactly what everyone else has said.

Although it's easier to latch onto this self harming methods of coping but at the end of the day you're just working against yourself making it all so much worse.

It is a little harder to find that thing that helps you cope with life whether it be writing, drawing, walking, sports etc. But when you do, the relief is unbelievable. Stay strong and try some of the suggested things. Go in with a positive mind and the outcome should be good.

Hey Jasmine,

It might help you to get the bottom of what is causing you to turn to these unhealthy methods of coping. Is there anyone you would feel comfortable talking with about your problems? If not you could always try to sort through your thoughts by writing a diary or a blog. When you are tempted to resort to one of your unhealthy coping methods remember that you have so many other options that can help you in a more constructive way. You could try one of the alternatives listed on the thread, you could go to the support and advice chat room, you could use the HelpLINK system or Live Help feature on the site, you could call a hotline find a number in your area HERE, and you could always PM me. I am here for you and I am never to busy to listen. Another thing you might like to try is writing a 'happy list'. This is a list of all the healthy activities that you enjoy doing. Next time you feel down or upset take out your 'happy list' and do everything on it until you feel better. Take care and hang in there.

Lots of love <3 Mimi

yea positive strategies would be those that dont involve hurting yourself or others.
so maybe writing down things in a diary, draw, listen to music etc
