Does caffeine do anything to you? - October 1st 2012, 04:13 PM

I know a few people (like my best friend and sister) who drink loads of energy drinks and coffee but they feel no different. If I drink 2+ cans of energy drinks I get hyper for about an hour until in wears off. I also can't drink caffeine after 7pm or else I won't sleep.

The reason your friends arent showing symptoms of caffeine use is because they drink tons of coffee and energy drinks. Just like other drugs, you can build up a tolerance to caffeine, which means if you consume large quantities on a regular basis than it will take more and more caffeine to show symptoms. If they completely stopped consuming caffeine for a couple weeks, they would also have that jittery feeling you get.

Caffeine is in a lot of the things we consume, soda, tea, energy drinks, diet pills and some cold medicines are just to name a few. So its really easy for people to build up a tolerance to caffeine these days. I am one of those people; I love coffee, tea and soda! So I have to be very careful on how much I consume or else my morning cup of coffee wont do anything for me!

That isn't always true though, some people just aren't affected. I don't drink tea coffee or energy drinks, never have really, I only drink water most of the time these days. I certainly don't take any diet pills or similar, but the few energy drinks I have had in the past had no affect on me whatsoever.

Only energy drinks seem to affect me noticeably. I can drink coffee and cola without feeling too hyper.

I didn't used to be affected at all. I could drink caffinated stuff at 11PM or midnight and not feel a thing. Then all of a sudden I became really sensitive. Turns out it interacts with one of my medications and my eye doctor didn't warn me! I still drink it though, the effects aren't too bad.

Coffee makes me pee like crazy...

Heh. Uh, I wouldn't say that coffee makes me hyper, or even just very awake, but it makes me feel alive-ish first thing in the morning. If I don't drink coffee before work, its noticable.

Caffeine keeps me alive. However, I have a really high tolerance now. On average, I drink about four cups of coffee a day or equivalent in Redbull or tea. Yesterday, I had four cups of drip coffee. Today, I'm having a triple espresso and probably a diet soda later. Some days I'll have a cup of drip and iced tea through the day.

Coffee doesn't do anything - probably because I drink one cup once in a blue moon. The only other caffeinated drink I consume is Mountain Dew and that makes me reallyyyy hyper. Weird, right? xD

Double post .

I loooooooooooooovvvvvvveeeeeeeeeeeeeeee caffeine and yes to a degree, it does have an affect on me but it has to be strong to have an effect. I love iced coffee but the cappucino doesn't work, with the double espresso, I am typing at 100,000,000,000 miles a minute.

Soft drinks won't have an affect and it has to be strong for a coffee to hit me. Sometimes you don't realise it but ti does actually hit you, so that's whassup .

Re: Does caffeine do anything to you? - October 2nd 2012, 02:36 AM

I'm one of those "persons sensitive to caffeine" who has maintained the sensitivity into adulthood.

Coke makes me fidget worse, mountain dew even more so, energy drinks send me high for between 4 and 6 hours, depending. Last time I had a can of lift plus I was buzzing for 8 hours straight - I talk really fast, struggle to sit still, and switch topics at speeds others cannot keep up with. The effect of this all is exacerbated when I'm also in a hypomanic/manic state.

I don't drink coffee because it's bitter and yuck, and no matter how often I drink energy drinks (I used to have a couple a day), I still maintained the high level of sensitivity.

Everybody's system is different. Caffeine is something I'm weirdly sensitive to, however large amounts of alcohol barely affect me

So yeah, everybody's different. My case has always seemed a bit extreme though.

I could drink a lot of coffee and nothing will happen to me. I sometimes drink coffee 10 0'clock at night (mostly in the winter) and nothing I will sleep like I normally do. I ♥ coffee. Its like part of my life!!

I work at a coffee shop. WOOP. I don't drink coffee often though. But when I do, I'm usually just more alert. It doesn't take much for me, though. My co workers, will pull shots of espresso then drink them straight. I'm like ew. For a lot of people, I've learned, coffee drinking is routine. Something they do daily to get their day going.

It really is a mix between a builded up tolerance and just being naturally immune. Think for example alcohol, the amt of which makes a person intoxicated varies either naturally or how much their tolerance is.

For me being in college and living off of caffine, I don't really get jittery, however days I don't drink it I do get a lot more sluggish and cranky.

Re: Does caffeine do anything to you? - October 3rd 2012, 07:54 PM

When I first starting drinking coffee, it gave me a TON of energy, but there were some side effects. I would talk 1000 miles per hour and become very productive, but my heart rate would shoot way up and my hands would shake a bit. This would last for approx. 2 hours. As time went on, my tolerance increased, and now I just feel a little more energized. I only feel the way I used to when I drink coffee on an empty stomach. If I drink coffee, I won't have an appetite for a few hours, but once the caffeine wears off, I'm STARVING. Also, if I drink coffee later in the evening (let's say after 8), it actually makes me sleepy.

Energy drinks do very little for me. After about 2 red bulls I'll start to feel my heart rate increase. After the third I'll feel jittery, not too uncomfortable though.
With regard to coffee, 2 double shot espressos get me to about that third red bull, but with greater comfort and taste. mmmm

I drink coffee pretty regularly because it tastes good, does nothing for me energy wise.
BUT if I drink an entire energy drink I get super jittery and bouncy. It's beyond crazy. So depending on the amount of caffeine it can pretty much make me super annoying.

Blahh I wish I didn't have such a high tolerance to caffeine, if I don't have enough during the day I get serious migraines and its highly aggravating. When I was younger to wake up for school I would drink a RedBull and take NoDoze when I had test days and it worked like a champ ALTHOUGH I DO NOT recommend it!

I drink a lot of coffee mainly for the taste & it seems to have less of an effect on me than what it used to. I've taken caffeine pills when I was low on sleep & those things make you go for hours.

I drink about 3-5 cups of coffee a day, I feel full of energy for about an hour or two before I crash. I've developed a caffeine tolerance a long time ago. That happens, like with any other drug you take (as Lizzie said).

I'm crying underwater so you don't hear the sound."

What if I can't forget you?
I'll burn your name into my throat.
I'll be the fire that'll catch you.
What's so good about picking up the pieces?

Re: Does caffeine do anything to you? - November 30th 2012, 11:23 PM

I stopped drinking energy drinks but that's not because of the caffeine, it's the massive amount of sugar that bothers me.
I do drink a lot of caffeine, mostly tea and various forms of coffee. Doesn't bother me, if I am ready for bed it won't matter if I just downed straight espresso.
Although, I think my tolerance was increased by Adderall and stuff... Which FYI I have ADHD so I took it legitimately... I think that it helps THAT I have ADHD, my brain chemistry is wired differently when it comes to hyperactivity and focusing, though I know some people who have ADHD and practically jump through the ceiling if their even within 5 feet of it.
