Question Drinking Too Often ? - April 15th 2009, 04:45 PM

My mom knows I drink and she says that its alright if I dont get too drunk and too often... Which I agree with, but she also says that this is bad for me. I dont drink every weekend like some people. I drink once or maybe twice a month. But most of the times I do drink I end up getting drunk (Im a light weight) Mom said its like beige drinking (Or however you spell it) But I only do it on the od thing and if I can be bothered. Is she right and is it bad if Im not getting drunk once a month?

Many thanks
Charlie

at the moment its probably not doing you any harm as its only once a month or so? but for your age, your quite young, this adds up, and it will soon become binge drinking (like once a week) which can be damaging to your health xxx

Hiya

Try not to rely on alcohol to solve your problems.
Drinking is OK, in moderate conditions.

Try to keep the drinking to a social event, rather than becoming an addict & needing alcohol

Once you start binge drinking then its very hard to stop.

But, hey, if you only do it socially, then it should be ok.

Why are you drinking at 14? Can't you find something sobering to do for fun?

You should wait until your body develops more and that your body will have the time and space to make itself strong naturally. If you're drinking at 14, you're only going to cause some complications later on. I know you're only 14 and may not be able to grasp this, but hopefully you'll understand it soon. I certainly don't blame you for it, I drank and did drugs starting when I was 13/14.

Just today I found out from my therapist that I possibly have some brain damage, because he did a brain test with me last week and it seems that I am apparently past the borderline of average/genius, but because of the liquor and drugs since the age of 13/14 my memory is like below averge, I can certainly make up for that now that I am permanently off drugs/liquor and exercise my memory for it to be better.

It's not bad at all if someone drinks once or twice a month, but for your age and for your small size(you say you are a light weight and judging from your avatar pic), you can get into trouble too fast, too soon with not requiring a lot of liquor in your system.

I would suggest trying to go a month without drinking, I mean I don't think you are the type that needs liquor to have fun. What do you do on the weekends that you don't drink, if I may ask?

Its a good point that you are putting across. My drinking has got alot better than it use too but Im still drinking not for ymyself but because we are in a big group... I would never drink on my own anyways... I do all types on things on the weekends. Me and my boyfriend went to feed the ducks last time and we might go out with mates but not drink etc... All depends on weather and mood i suppose.

All other factors put aside, you really should not drink at 14, I gaurantee you will regret it in the future. You should find fun things to do without liquor.

I think that while drinking in moderation is fine because of your age you should try especially hard to find other things to besides drink. I don't mean to judge you for you age I just think that 14 is still a little young to be dabbling in drinking and such things. You need to give your body time to grow and develop. Drinking isn't good for your health and starting so young will only lead to more serious problems in the future. I would try to cut down on your drinking when you do drink. There is no need to go overboard. Don't drink like it's the last night you have. Think about the consequences of your actions and make smart decisions. It is important to know your limit and stick to it. If you know you are a light weight then don't drink very much. Also, don't put yourself in dangerous situations when you are drinking. This entails not getting in a car when the driver has been drinking, not going overboard with your own drinking, watching your drink at all times, not going out alone at night, and just in general not doing anything risky or harmful. Throughout your teenage years your brain is still developing. Specifically the part of your brain that deals with impulse control and decision making. When you are drunk it is even easier to be impulsive and not think things through. I just want you to be aware of this so that next time something sounds like a great idea you'll give yourself some time to think about it before jumping into something. I just don't what you to have any regrets about things you might do while you are drunk. The safest bet is not to drink at all. However, if that isn't something you are wiling to do at least only drink around people you feel comfortable and safe with. Take care of yourself and make smart choices.

Lots of love <3 Mimi

At 14, it's not the healthiest choice nor best coping mechanism. If you keep it up for many years, it will add up and you will face some health problems. Find something else that's better aside from drugs and alcohol.

How many times you drink a week depends on what, how much, etc. 2-3 times a week can easily cause major long term problems, but it also depends.
