Ibuprofen. - December 26th 2012, 02:08 AM

I was just wondering how many Ibuprofens (I'm not sure what size they are. Just the usual pill size.) is too many. Sometimes I take more than prescribed. This is NOT a big problem. Cutting is my issue. Not this, but occasionally I so and how many would you say is too much at once. Not as on the bottle but when it starts to cause decent problems.

Hello,
I dont think your supposed to take more than 2 every eight hours. (that's what's on mine) Constantly taking to many ibuprofrins though can cause kidney issues. I used have to take them for back pain all the time. They can also cause chronic headaches. It's not exactly good for your health so u may want to consider the dosage per hours.

Take Care,
Maria

You should follow the dosage per hours (which is like 2 in 4 hours or 2 in 8 hours or something). It some how works out to not being more than 8 in a 24 hour period. You risk a stomach ulcer otherwise which would be bad.

Hey,

I have been told that more than the amount stated on the bottle is okay when you are only using it every once in a while. But take note that it is not much more, and I am not a medical professional. I would speak to your doctor about what is safe for you. Out of curiosity, why are you taking them? They do not really have any type of 'high' effect other than placebo. All you are doing is harming your kidneys and liver. Over time it will take a toll on your body and sometimes people do not realize until it is too late. So definitely speak with a doctor, and if you have been taking high amounts for a prolonged period of time, perhaps get a full blood work up to ensure your organ functions are okay.

Good luck, be safe!
Maria.

I don't take them in a bad way really. I just take them frequently for allergies and stuff. I'm allergic to cats and we own a cat so when my eyes or lips swell I take them. I didn't really make that clear earlier. Sorry.

You should probably take Benadryl for allergies and not ibuprofen it would be more effective and taking to much ibuprofen over an extended amount of time can thin your blood.

Might I ask why you are taking Ibuprofen for allergies? That's a pain killer not an allergy medication... Reactin or Benedryl or something along those lines might be more beneficial or effective... I have used Avamys which is a nasal spray for allergies, you can get some from your doctor and it is actually excellent, it worked when over the counter stuff failed.

We only have ibuprofen. It sort of helps for swelling and my eyes and lips swell around cats.

It doesn't take much more than recommended to cause stomach ulcers. Been there, done that, hurts like hell.

I agree that taking Ibuprofen for allergies might not be very effective. But its not a painkiller like stated above, its an anti-inflamatory. Benadryl, Zyrtec and Claritin, among many others, are all available at grocery stores and pharmacies. These will work much better with your allergies that way you don't have to take as much Ibuprofen which can cause issues if taken too often.
