Unhappy Ways To Prevent Myself From Substance Using - April 23rd 2013, 11:51 PM

So, a few weeks ago, I had surgery to empty a pilonidal abscess on my natal cleft of my butt. Surgery went well, and for pain pills, they prescribed me vicaden, or hydrocodone/codeine mix, which is extremely strong stuff. I loved the feeling the pills gave me. It was very numb and I didn't worry about anything. I've been off the pills for about a week, but I've been having urges to share that feeling again. My mother leaves her vicaden out most of the time, and the only reason I haven't taken them is because she needs them for her neurotic pain.

That and my friends are testing new types of ways to get high that I won't describe here, and they keep offering me some. I don't know what to do. I'e always been the good child and now I'm where I never thought I'd be. I try distracting myself but eventually my brain leads back to stray thoughts.

That's bit common. You have been doing wrong that feeling of guilt is obvious. Ultimately its Your life and though process that would guide You through life. You need to be firm about leaving the wrong things.

Hi Callie,

Well done on resisting your mothers medication, as you quite rightly said - she needs it a lot more than you do. It also shows me that you're still very much in control of the cravings.

The way you feel is very common, especially as it's still very fresh in your mind. In time the fixation of that high will lose its intensity, you will begin to forget how it felt and the cravings will drop out with it.

At one time or another most of us find ourselves in a situation with drugs, do you take part with your friends or step back and walk away, thats completely your call and not something I feel I should be commenting on. Just ensure you always take a step back, some time with yourself and consider whether it's something you really want to do, are you in control of the situation... If you have any doubt, don't do it.

Welll done on not touching your mum's pills.

Try distracting yourself and ignoring your friends.
Have you tried talking to your doctors? because medicines can be addictive and they may be able to help

Most of the feelings are gone now, though replaced with other ones. I guess it just took time, and was temporary. ^^;
