i realized i have a bit of a problem - May 3rd 2009, 09:32 PM

I hope you people aren't going to take it as harsh as somebody did on yahoo answers. Last night i did the typical 22 year old thing, I was at a party and I had at least 6 shots of vodka and whiskey. Then this morning I had muffins I'm hypoglycemic so my blood sugar today has dropped dramatically and has been like a yo-yo any suggestions. This lady that answered me told me: "Stop poisoning yourself. Take responsibility for running your life. Get an exercise program started and get with your doctor to for more advice on managing your medical problem." Yes I know I need to do that but it isn't that simple. I don't have a so called alcohol problem, I don't drink hardly at all but when I do (I only been tipsy drunk) twice in my life. The thing is, I need to figure out what to do about my blood sugar (I don't know if this goes here or not), and what to do to stabilize it it the next day. Like I said earlier I'm hoping to get a more reasonable answer than I was given

I'm not an expert on this to be honest. I'd say call your doctor and ask them how to control your blood sugar after a night of drinking. Not a big deal

drinking alcohol-first increases your blood sugar dramatically and then drops it horribly. (so the yo-yo effect)
I would try to avoid drinking so much alcohol for your health, because no matter what you do afterward you will still have the problem.

I completely understand that you don't drink much at all, and your young, and you want to have fun every once in a while. That's fine. But there isn't really anything you can do about your blood sugar. If you want to drink, thats okay, just be sure never to get to wasted drunk. My sister-in-law is dibetic, and she drinks a few drinks every other week or so. She never drinks more than about two though.

My suggestion is just to call your doctor. Ask him/ her about it. Your legal age for drinking, and it's not like he won't get mad at you about it. Also, keep fit. Just stay healthy, and like I said, when you drink, just don't drink a lot, and the next day just be very careful. If it gets too bad, please don't hesitate to get the hospital.
