Question Addicted to getting high- not being high - December 16th 2014, 04:01 PM

I have gotten to the point where at times I actually dread doing a shot. I may not wanna get high but in the end I always end up doing it anyways just to do it. Is this normal?

Hello there,

If taking shots and/or getting high is something you are aware of why you are doing it then there isn't a huge concern. However, if you do not know why you are taking shot and/or getting high then it can be more concerning. You are not alone in feeling this way; in fact a lot of others do and/or don't know why they are doing shot and/or getting high.

Usually when we are unsure why we do something and when we like doing it, something drives us to do those things, for instance stress, anything that happened recently or in your past, numbing feelings, or being addicted. If you do know or don't know why, either way, you can get the support you do need from a variety of different organizations and programs.

Here are two hotlines that you can call:
Alcohol and Drug Hotline: 1-800-821-4357
National Alcohol and Drug Treatment Hotline: 1-800-622-4357

NIDA Information for Students and Young Adults:

This website provides educational resources and materials about a multitude of different substances, and is geared towards students and young adults.

Let us know if you need any other information or you need some more support, we are here for you.

Take care of yourself.

Maybe you should try rock climbing-this helped me quit cold turkey.
