Unhappy My Dad Is A Drug Addict - December 27th 2014, 04:38 AM

I haven't spoken to my father recently because I'm trying for once to avoid being hurt by his addiction. Why should I have to suffer the consequences for someone else's actions? I never asked for him to be my father. Today, I received a package in the mail from him. It was a pandora bracelet. I had to really resist the urge to throw it in the trash (or at the mailmans face.) however, now that the shock-induced anger has subsided, I now feel extremely depressed and just want to know if anyone else out there is dealing with a drug addict for a father, one who doesn't bother speaking to you until the high wears off and he starts to feel bad.

Hello and welcome to TH I'm sorry to hear that you're dealing with this, I don't know what it's like, but if you're looking for people in the same situation, try here: http://www.nar-anon.org/ this is an international self-help organization for people who are family members or friends of addicts. If you're not in the US try looking at this page for sites for groups in other countries http://www.nar-anon.org/related-sites/

Hey there, and welcome to TeenHelp. I'm sorry to hear that you are going through this. I have a sort of similar situation myself. My mother is a drug addict. I know it can be a very depressing to see a parent be a drug addict. I myself never asked my mother, to be my mother. The best advice that I can give you is, it's not your fault that your father is this way. You are not to blame. Also I may suggest maybe talking to him about getting help. Ultimately though, it would be his decision of whether he wants the help or not. I do hope that someday your dad will quit using drugs. If you ever need anyone to talk to, feel free to message me.
