Smile (Thank you) Sober for good thanks so much - June 8th 2017, 04:46 AM

When I first posted here, I was an addict who needed major help. I only expected one or two replies. over the first week, I got over 10 replies, most within an hour. with the ongoing support of my freinds, and the support I got from here, I have been sober off alcohol for around 2ish months and Smoking for a little less. thank you so much. I am trying to be completely sober by the end of the summer, and I want to thank everyone so much. I am doing so well, I convinced my parents to not send me to rehab. yay.

Thanks soooo much,
-Keagan

Congratulations!

(Expect a rough ride, relapses are very common)

but I can see you have the desire, and that's what matters!

(My latest definition of Addiction is when you chose to quit, and then discover you keep on using, even after you've consciously decided not to. This can lead to great confusion. It's because the brain has different parts. The part that makes rational decisions, is not the part that becomes addicted. It's a lot trickier than just making a conscious decision. The trick is figuring out how to manage that other part of the brain, the emotional part, and keep it from gaining control. That's what all the "recovery" stuff is about — practicing ways to keep the emotional part of the brain from gaining control. People go to support meetings because they like the comradery. People meditate, yoga, qi-gong, tai-chi, exercise, whatever helps keep their emotional brain in check so they don't relapse. People learn new better ways to cope with stress. People in recovery end up surpassing "regular" people, having more skills, abilities, better able to deal with life.)

Best wishes!

P.S.
There's a relatively new series of 3 books:
The Tail of the Raccoon: Secrets of Addiction
by Barbara Zito
which at the end has some interesting new info on addiction, and Sign Tracking.

We all care for you. All we wish to see is that you are improving!, and you did! I am so happy for you

Do my best at everything I can to live a happy, perfect life.

Happy life won't come by being happy everyday. Struggle and always work hard.

Forgive other's imperfection, they will work hard about it once I point it out to them, just like what I should be doing.

On the other hand, never tolerate with my own mediocrity. Never slack and always strive improvement.

Never settle. Never give up.

Hey!

Its so lovely to read this and hear how Teenhelp and the users on it have helped you. Its really positive. And congratulations on being 2 months sober and smoking less too! Addiction can be really hard and I can relate to that so I can imagine the amount of effort and hard work you are putting in to this. Even though we've supported you, you've acted. You've done this so be proud of yourself and keep on going!

One day at a time! And remember we're always here for you too!

Hope and wishes,
Jessie
