Unhappy Rehab - June 27th 2009, 06:59 AM

So over the past 10 years, since I was 8 my mom has been an alcaholic and has had an addiction to presciption drugs such as Vidcodin, xzanex, ibuprofen, flexoril, and many many other drugs. Withing the past month she started drinking and driving and had become very abusive both emotionally and physically. She got drunk and cracked open my dad's head with a candle holder, fractured my wrist, bit, kicked, hit, and punched me and my dad. She also called us the most horrible names you could possible call a person. It finally got to be too much for me and my dad. My brother gave up caring a while ago, he deals with the pain by ignoring it and hiding in his room while playing video games, my sister takes it by being aggressive and an angry rebel, while me and my dad on the otherhand cry and are very emotional. On Tuesday we took my mom to a rehab in Ventura, California. It's only short term and to be honest...I don't know if it will do any good. I'm trying to be strong for my brother and sister and my dad, but to be honest I'm falling apart. I don't know what to do to keep her from drinking and taking pills when she gets out of rehab.

Caycee,

I completely understand your situation, you should be happy that she is going to Rehab, as my mom will never go, but hopefully while she is there, they will convince her to stay as long as she needs to so she won't drink, take the meds, or hurt you and your family. What I can suggest, is while she's away, maybe get rid of all booze in the house, and/or put all meds in a locked cabinet that only your father has access too. I have only heard good stories about people going to rehab, I have had a couple friends come out of it, and they are doing better then ever!

I wish you the best, PM me if you need anything

Brittany

I don't understand what you're going through, but I think it could also help to get some family help for the rest of you so that when she comes home you can know how to help her and what to do if she starts using again. Having said that there isn't much you can do to keep her from dinking or using again because once she stops she is the only one who controls weather she starts again. I'm sorry you've had to live with this and I hope she gets better. Good Luck
