How long have you managed to stay sober? - January 23rd 2009, 10:16 PM

I've been through hell and back through drugs and liquor. I started drinking when I was 15. I started pot when I was 13, but that slowly escalated to mushrooms, acid, cocaine, and I believe I may have accidently took something that was meant for someone else.. Meaning 'date rape' drugs, whatever that was that I took, it made me feel like... good... to the point where I was numb and then shit went down.

Anyhow, after one night of drinking hard liquor, smoking pot and taking a snort of cocaine, smoking 2 ciggarette packs, all within the span of 3 hours, I basically drank 'till I couldn't feel feelings anymore'. Then I slept for not even 5 hours, I woke up dehydrated, instead of getting a glass of water, I decided to play a video game on my PC(It was Starcraft), anyhow, about 30 minutes into playing... BAM! I came to and was being helped to a stretcher. I was then informed that I had a seizure. Anyhow I slipped once or twice after that event and have been sober ever since..

It's been 7 months for me since I've been 'off the pipe' and off the liquor, I was wondering if other people have been able to stay sober. I've had to alienate all of my friends because they kept pressuring me and I did not want to slip again.

I was addicted to prescription painkillers and I am still clean so it has been a good while. At least 3 -4 months. Here is a link to my story: http://teenhelp.org/forums/showthread.php?t=1340

Dustin, applaud to you that you have decided to stay sober, I've also read your story.

Sometimes all that it takes to make someone stop their bad habits is for something drastic to happen. Only I'm glad that you did not die from that overdose. It does feel very good to be sober, there will be withdrawls and perhaps you'll still get the cravings to get impaired, but that is simply your body and mind that is healing itself.

I hope to see more people post how long they have been sober, although now I don't think this was the right section in the forum to place this thread. :/

We used to have a sticky on this, and I'll leave this in Drugs and Alcohol so long as it doesn't become a "story" thread, in which case, I will need to lock it because it would violate rules.

Just...Wow, Matthew. Glad you're ok.

I just wanted to read/comment the story. I've only been clean for a few hours.

Stories like Matthews are breaking the rules??? I'm sorry but that makes me very angry. Reading his story and how lived through that was really inspiring to me. These stories help me. I'll go before I say something that'll get me in trouble.

I just thought that perhaps a recovery story in this section would help some people realize that drugs/liquor is bad, mmkay? I only noticed the recovery story section last night, it is very small to notice.. I'm not sorry to have posted this thread.

Tibby, thanks for voicing what I also think. :P

No, it's more like 'bragging' is against the rules. Stories are fine

not very long. atm longest time is 48 hours (two days). I say it like that because it make sit seem longer than it really is. It's not that great of an accomplishment compared to all of you guys but it will be longer, sooner?

First, congrats to you for managing 7 months!!!
Second, Thank you Tibby for voicing your opinion, I agree with you.
Stories like these, inspire other people and help them. I don't think it's a violation of the rules.
lol, Yea Shaun, you're quite right!

If you're referring to me, I certainly wasn't bragging. :P Might want to check some of the other threads in this section. hehe
