Suboxone - January 7th 2009, 01:38 AM

Hello everyone as some of you may know I am from Kentucky. I was addicted to prescription opiates for around 5 years and now I take Suboxone as a treatment aid. A lot of people around here use this as a treatment aid. I am just if anyone else has heard anything good or bad about suboxone?

Yes my friend was on it. We did a lot research on it basically what she's told me is it saved her life but she's also having withdrawal from it. She was addicted to opiates too. She said it will take her brain a year to re set itself and produce natural opiates again but it did help her. Even I can tell.
Are you under a doctor's care while on it?

That's good then! Soboxone affects everyone differently like any drug does. She was on it for a few months, she had a horrible opiate addiction. We were afraid she might die. It did save her life.

Suboxone is the latest incarnation of a philosophy of care called replacement therapy or so called harm reduction therapy. The reality is you are still on an opiate but one associated because of its pharmacology with less behavioral problems and psychiatric symptoms. The goal of treatment should still be to one day be abstinent from all drugs but coming of Suboxone is quite unpleasant.
Always take it under a psychiatrists care.

I agree with you about the psychiatrists care. My doctor explained to me that the suboxone treatment is a two part process. One is the suboxone for the physical symptoms of addiction and intense counseling for the emotional part. I have been doing both and I seem to be doing very well and am still clean and sober for the longest I have been in a LONG time.
