Exclamation Becoming an alcoholic? - January 11th 2010, 04:11 AM

Hi everyone, my name is Alex. I used to come on this website alot back about two years ago under a different name for depression and self harm. I thought i had gotten rid of all of my problems, but a new one has arose now. I came back to you all because you helped me through so much with everything and i knew I could trust you all that have gone through this to help me with everything.

For the past about 4 months I have been drinking almost every single night. At first i just took at as something to do with my friends, im in college now so it seemed like just a college thing to do. But now im getting so scared that I am becoming dependant on these stupid drinks. I get headaches if Im not drunk and i cant even remember the last time i was sober. I cant talk to my parents because they would be so incredibly dissapointed at me. I just dont know what to do anymore. Im even considering going to AA meetings but im so scared of that too. If anyone has any advice, please help... Im spiraling into something that i do not want to get into, back into my drug stage, and i cant pull myself out of it without help.

If you go to an AA meeting you will find people with worse problems than yourself and people with a similar drinking habit to yourself. The staff are likely to be very friendly as they are there to help you, it's certainly worth considering, or at least looking into.
You're likely addicted to drinking and as well as some sort of rehabilitation, counselling is also a good idea as it will best help you.
All I can say is try to drink as much water as possible, it will help to keep you from dehydrating, which is very likely the cause of the headaches.

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger and wiser, that in itself, is worth the fight.

If you honestly can't muster up the strength to tell your parents and go to rehab, I STRONGLY suggest you go to AA. It can change your life dramatically for the better. I know it's hard to come to grips with and it sounds terrifying, but you can do it. I never even had the courage to get myself to go to meetings for my past addiction and just the fact that you're even thinking about getting help and getting better shows that you have your head screwed on right. You can do this.
