Worried about becoming an Alcoholic :S - February 9th 2010, 08:29 AM

Hey, i was a bit uncertain wether or not this was suitable for this forum but okay:

So i never drink, EVER, my dad was a violent alchoholic, when all my friends went out getting drunk i would stay in and play video-games. After a break up with a girlfriend, i decided to go to a friends house (whom is a girl, and i found rather attractive) We had like 4 bottles of wine and at the end of it i was proper pissed, but had such a laugh, i don't know why i was so against it before. i mean to be honest i think i was a bit too touchy feely but i wouldnt of done it sober.

It was the first time i've ever got drunk, and now i am scared i will want to drink more and accidently become an alcoholic, ive already recently got smoking as a habit.

I was just wondering for any advice you guys could give me. thanks

Hello Dan!

You won't become an alcoholic, trust me.
Getting drunk once does not make you completely dependent on alcohol. If you keep drinking though you'll start to need it more, but for now you can drink without the worry of getting addicted.

Pm me if you need anymore advice on this topic.

I know the whole genetics factor can complicate things, but from my experience, alcohol is one of the tougher substances to become addicted to. For a year, I drank four to five nights a week, 40-45 drinks each time. My main problem was that I used drinking as a crutch to overcome my anxieties and to fit in. I never became addicted, but I felt like I was going down the path to dependency, so I cut back and my life's returned to the living hell it used to be, though I don't have any cravings.

As for you though, I'd recommend just not using it as a crutch like I did. Enjoy it in moderation and you should be just fine. Props for drinking wine too, as long as you stay away from that franzia shit, quite awful.

FWIW, I'm drinking right now....so maybe you shouldn't listen to my advice
