Cigarettes. - October 6th 2010, 08:35 PM

I quit smoking last Friday, haven't smoked at all since.

My mother said something about if they kept raising the taxes then maybe I'd stop smoking, and I told her I did. She told me I was lying.

Has anyone else had someone not believe them when they said they've quit doing something? How did you deal with it? Cuz right now, I'm just really pissed at her.

I got really pissed too.
Then I just decided that it didn't matter because I still quit.
Congrats on quitting! That's great! Keep it up. =]

Don't worry about what she said. she'll soon see in time that you have quit. what matters is that you've done it for yourself, so don't worry about other peoples comments.

Yep ____ Loads of my family didn't believe me that I quit until I quit for about 2 months :/ My friends tend to forget also. My best friend said to me a few days ago "do you want to split the money for tobacco when we go on holidays? as they're cheaper" I DON'T SMOKE

Like the posts above me have said, don't worry about what other people you think as long as your happy that you made the decision. And congratulations on quitting.

Well done on quitting! My boyfriend quit last week on monday, he just had his last cigarette and hasn't had one since! You've done really well

Just ignore your mother. She may just be in disbelief because she knows it can be difficult to quit and might not believe that you've achieved it so easily. Just keep at it and let her see that you've done it!

You don't have to be concerned that she doesn't believe you, though. You've done this for you! Not her.

Take care

Well done for quitting! I know it's tough to not get upset when people make comments like that but try to ignore them and do it for yourself and because you want to. Plus, when they actually see that you have quit they'll soon feel pretty stupid for ever doubting you in the first place!

And apparently the fact that it wasn't even a week ago that I quit means that it doesn't mean anything.

Which is stupid, because most people who try to quit will cave within the first three days.

Well, hopefully you don't start again, cause your mom would think she was right the whole time. If anything good could come out of her being stupid, it's motivation for you to keep up with the quitting. She'll feel really stupid when she realizes that you actually did quit. Whether she shows it or not.

I'm not going to start again. I was never addicted, so quitting wasn't even a big deal. I was just tired of wasting the money.
