smoking - November 26th 2010, 08:58 AM

hey,
so i'm too young to buy cigarettes and like none of my friends smoke so it's near impossible to get any. a couple weeks ago i found a box on a bathroom floor with five left in it and i took it home. i found another friend that has smoked before and we shared them. i know it's stupid to get addicted cuz of lung cancer and i heard it brings down your energy level and all that crap. anyways, i actually really liked it. i was kinda (meaning a lot) stressed out and that's part of the reason i tried it. i really liked the taste of them though. i'll be old enough to buy them myself in just over a month now. i'm kinda worried about getting addicted but i'm gonna try not to let that happen. so how many exactly can i smoke a week/month without having to worry about all the side effects and cancer and stuff? any general advice about smoking? am i an idiot for liking it/wanting to continue?

Apparently just one cigarette can lower your life expectancy, so there is no 'safe amount' that you can have. You're best off quitting whilst you're ahead and finding another way to relieve built up stress.

it's not entirely stress though. i mean i actually like the taste. maybe i'm just fooling myself. i mean even though i like it, it's the times where i am most stressed that i start thinking about it. blah, so complicated.

Hey Vic!
Let me tell you it's A HORRIBLE THING TO START! My mom started when she was 12 due to *stress* and now she's 50 and still smoking...They have many better alterantives ( you can chew gum suck, a lollie pop, eat twizlers, maybe life savers) My grandpa stopped with life savers.Maybe doing some of these ^^^ will help you quit.
Make sure to tell us how it goes! Feel free to inbox / friend me!
Hope it works out!

I would try and find something else you like the taste of that doesn't give you cancer, yellow teeth, yellow fingernails, wrinkles, and a lower life expectancy.

Ahh, no no no.

It doesn't work like that at all. If you're going to smoke you simply have to accept that it will have negative effects on your body. Whether you smoke on a day or 20 a day.

Re: smoking - November 26th 2010, 06:43 PM

I don't think it's worth getting into this sort of thing. Once you've had a few and you become 'addicted' it'll be hard for you to limit yourself to the 'healthy amount'. (I don't think there is a healthy amount FYI). So I would advise not getting into it at all.

There's little positives and a list as long as your arm of negatives, so what's the point? There's no amount that you could smoke that wouldn't have any lasting effects on your body. And like I said before, it's hard to control how many you smoke when you become addicted.

Just keep these things in mind, take care.

Just one cigarette can get you hooked and seeing as you are asking this question it seems it already is getting a grip on you. The feelings that smoking give you are never permanent and its not worth the damage that it does to your body. Take care.

"Every cigarette is doing you harm." - Australia Anti-smoking Lobbyist Ad.

So, I'm a smoker. I smoke a pack a day, and to be honest mate, I wish I could stop. You start to HATE the taste. You start to hate the smell. You start to hate the feeling of disgusting teeth and waking up not being able to breath. You start to really, really, really hate when your girlfriend asks you to "brush your teeth" because you taste like cigarettes. You hate that your friends don't smoke. You start to hate that you have to go outside to have one - even when it's raining, you'll go out and smoke even if you don't want to. People in the street look at you in disgust. People abuse you. I'm seventeen. I've had three people in the past week tell me to "piss off" because the smoke is disgusting. I've had two children look at me, mouths gaping and yell to their parents: "MUMMY/DADDY, THAT BOY IS SMOKING!". I'm seventeen, dude. I'm supposed to be healthy. I'm supposed to be social.

Smoking is anti social, and it's detrimental to everything and everyone I hold dear.

I've tried quitting. The longest I've ever quit for is three weeks. My brain explodes after that.

Quit while you can.

Re: smoking - November 28th 2010, 02:46 PM

Smoking even one a day is still very unhealthy. My friend's nan managed to cut down to half a cigarette a day and the doctor still told her it wasn't good for her.

There are lot more healthier ways to lower stress levels. Like Emily said a stress ball is a great idea. As for liking the taste what else do you like the taste of? maybe eating/drinking more of that will help.

I started smoking when I was 15 and only just quit. I haven't smoked for 100 days and I will say it was one of the hardest things I've done :/ I'm still chewing nicotine gum to help the cravings. I don't want to sound condescending but trust me it isn't worth it. I could barely breathe very well back when I used to smoke. Only recently my breathing has gone back to normal.

Re: smoking - December 12th 2010, 03:40 PM

It's been proven that four cigarettes is all it takes to permanently change your brain (I forgot which part) which in turn makes you crave it a lot more. I used to smoke once a week. Then twice a week. Then twice a day. Now I'm on between 12-15 a day. I've only been smoking a year and a half. It's scary how fast you start craving more and more. Quit while you're ahead. If the health problems won't scare you off, think of the money. I could have bought so many lovely new outfits this year if I didn't waste my money on smokes. xox
