Question I NEED HEROIN ADDICTS PLEASE - December 21st 2010, 09:36 PM

Hello, I have a couple questions for either heroin addicts who are trying to stop heroin use, or who have completely stopped.

Questions:

1) How long did it take to stop?

2) What withdrawl effects did you go through?

3) How long did the Withdrawls last?

4) Is there anything that made it easier to stop?

My boyfriend gave up Heroin 9 days ago, No lapse yet. I want to help him, so if you have any other advice, Please let me know. Thank you.

Im open and unprotected, Im fagile and cracked,
I stand alone in a crowd,
I'm the one you don't dare talk to,
Beacause,
I'm Crazy

Well..I'm not a heroin addict but I am in AP Psychology and we JUST had a test on drug use and the effects of drugs...so basically
1. How long it takes to stop depends somewhat on his willpower but mostly on his tolerance to the heroin...if he was taking HEAVY doses then he will most likely suffer from

Major withdrawal symptoms peak between 48 and 72 hours after the last dose and subside after about a week. Sudden withdrawal by heavily dependent users who are in poor health can be fatal.

Heroin is HIGHLY addictive so you have to see to it that if he quits he won't sneak in more heroin...its not my place to tell him not to use heroin but its not a wise choice to and if hes trying to quit he obviously doesnt value the heroin as much as he thinks he does....
A variety of effective treatments are available for heroin addiction. Treatment tends to be more effective when heroin abuse is identified early. The treatments that follow vary depending on the individual, but methadone, a synthetic opiate that blocks the effects of heroin and eliminates withdrawal symptoms, has a proven record of success for people addicted to heroin.

Other pharmaceutical approaches, like LAAM (levo-alpha-acetyl-methadol) and buprenorphine, and many behavioral therapies also are used for treating heroin addiction.

This covers it pretty well, it's about what I was going to respond with. I'll add that withdrawal from opiates such as heroin is best done in a medical facility under supervision when possible because opiates are highly addictive both physically and psychologically.
