Should I Tell My Family? - January 1st 2011, 12:00 AM

I've been thinking about going to an outpatient treatment center for my dxm abuse and I am not sure if I should tell my family about it or just secretly go. So, I was thinking about getting your opinions first because it's easier plus that way I will know how long to wait before seriously looking for a place to go to.

I think you should tell them when you recieved treatment , then through out the treatment they can offer you support (:

I know what its like to want to die; how it hurts to smile; how you try to fit in but you can't; how you hurt yourself on the outside; to try to kill the thing that's in the inside.

Question Re: Should I Tell My Family? - January 2nd 2011, 10:31 PM

Hey thanks to those who answered, after some consideration I've decided to tell my family about my problem. The only thing I need help with now is to figure out HOW to tell them. Any suggestions?

you could write them a letter? this is a good option because you can say all you want to say without forgetting something or them interrupting you.

Tell them if you think they will understand

if your risking being exiled (best word i can think of), don't. If they aren't going to acecpt that you have a problem that you have taken your own precautions to take care of, they don't deserve to know that your willing to make your life better, since they won't REALLY feel the same way.

I'm gonna close this cause the op's problem seems to have been solved. PM me if you want it reopened.

"Once a little boy sent me a charming card with a little drawing on it. I loved it.
I sent him a card and I drew a picture of a Wild Thing on it. I wrote,
“Dear Jim: I loved your card.”
Then I got a letter back from his mother and she said, “Jim loved your card so much he ate it.”
That to me was one of the highest compliments I’ve ever received. He didn’t care that it was an original Maurice Sendak drawing or anything.
He saw it, he loved it, he ate it."
