Weed rules my life... -
January 18th 2011, 05:22 PM
There was a time when my best mate and I didnt smoke weed. That time has long gone.
Now, our entire social network consists of stoners. The other friends are mere acquaintances, or we've lost contact. I now smoke weed on a daily basis, and its starting to affect me big time. I gotta quit, but doing so will mean me alienating myself from all of the stoner friends, and then I would be on my own. Not a nice place to be. In addition, my sober moments come with bouts of depression and my mind goes crazy. The only way to alieviate this is to smoke. I cant tell my parents. Not a chance. Not even on the table and never will be, full stop. Would appreciate UK-relevant answers when appropriate

Hey-
As a self-proclaimed stoner I understand your position. I'm probably high a good 90% of the day, and my friends are right there with me. It is an entire culture, you meet people through smoking, hang out specifically to smoke, etc. I think it's amazing you can see that it's affecting your everyday life. I have a lot of respect for that. But to be honest, I think you need to look and start making new friends. If you can make friends that are sober, you eventually can just start hanging out with them, and weed doesn't enter the picture anymore. If you don't feel comfortable hanging out sober with the friends you have now, they're not worth it anyway. The great thing about weed is it has no physical addiction (Some people argue it has some, but either way it would be a small small amount) so make sure when you stop you remember that, and remember any physical withdrawal is all in your head and you can make it go away. For the bouts of depression, can you speak to your parents about that? Seeing someone like a therapist may be really beneficial to you, and they could help you cut down on the smoking without your parents having to know because of confidentiality. Just make sure to ask them what their policies are before you start talking. Best of luck! Maria.
