Unfortunately you can't stop the cravings, only try and control them. I was addicted to MDMA (ecstasy), methamphetamine, pot as well as alcohol and I can tell you, I still get major cravings and pulls to go back, and a few times I have relapsed. They are hard to deny, but that's what you have to do. My mentor told me they will go away but it takes time. When you have them try and do something you enjoy to help distract yourself. Do you have someone you could talk to? I know that my friend and mentor has helped me a lot. I have her number and call her whenever it gets to the point where I'm just like "you know what I'm gonna have a drink/hit of something, I'm gonna do it." She doesn't care if it's 3 in the afternoon or 3 in the morning. If you do, consider asking if that person would mind if you were to contact him/her when you get bad cravings.

I don't think the cravings will ever really stop. But it's how you control them that counts. I like the idea of a friend you can call whenever you are really feeling like using. You just have to keep telling yourself that you won't go back to the drugs and stay strong.
If you ever need to talk, feel free to PM me.

I am in a similiar situation. I stopped using heroin Sept. 23 of 08. I have taken pain killers a few times but otherwise I haven't relasped any. I still get serious cravings, but not all the time like before. It always helps me to think about the days where I have no craving, and appear to be a normal person. I think it would take a whole lot of time, or some other major distraction(such as a different job, place, or family) to get rid of the cravings. But I can tell you that the longer you go the farther apart the cravings get.

I did a variety of drugs myself and liquor, I've been clean since September as well. September is like the month to start being sober or what?

Anyhow, I work at a call center, where there is always some illegal substance and liquor that is waved in front of my face and it's somewhat painful. People would go on their breaks and then come back high as they can be 5 minutes later. There is also a bar that is like 2 minutes away at the mall. So I had bad influence being waved in my face at work like I said.

I congratulate you on quitting ectasy, as I have tried that once and I just wanted more and more.

But that's what an addiction is, you stop doing something, but you will always have the urge to do so, even if the substance is flushed out of your system, you will remember how numb it made you feel. So I suppose the addiction will only truly end depending on how you choose to feel about the memories of getting impaired.

Hey lostinlove! Just checking in to see how you're doing. I hope you made it through the craving without giving in! And if you did, don't sweat it, just keep moving forward.

Like everyone said, I believe addiction will never go away... Sure it recedes, and eventually I believe it can become dormant. But it will always be there, unfortunately.

It's amazing that you quit, remember that, no matter how hard the cravings hit, remember that you STOPPED, you don't need it. You are able to do this!
