I've posted on here before concerining the amount of weed i smoke, and wondering whether it's a problem. it's probably been a couple of months since, and now i can safely say that i do have a problem. I've found myself selling my stuff, other people's stuff and moving money around just so i can buy weed. i smoke about a draw a day, but can go with less if needs be, but either way i will always find a way to smoke every single day. it's getting to the point where i don't even particularly enjoy smoking it anymore, it's just routine, and i wanna stop. but at the same time, whenever im straight headed i feel like absolute crap, i get down so easy and all i wanna do is run away and escape it all. i dunno whether that's because of an underlying problem or whether it is directly related to how much i smoke. if anyone has any advice, it'd be greatly appreciated.

Weed addiction is like a computer game addiction, both are psychological addictions meaning if you quit, you will not have any cravings or other physical withdrawl symptoms. I think the addiction is enforced because of your chronic feelings of "crapiness". Weed provides a non-physical escape from those feelings but once the effects ware off, you're back to feeling down. I think the key to quit your addiction is to address your chronic negative feelings, which is a psychological or psychosocial route.
Quitting the weed is not the same as quitting cigarettes because they have a psychological and a physical addiction, so the effects experienced are different. I can rip you off, and steal all your cash, suckerpunch you in the face, stand back and laugh. Leave you stranded as fast as a heart-attack.

Just for the record, replacing one bad habit with another isn't really a good idea. At all. I think it'd be good to try to replace smoking with something else, though. You can replace it with pretty much anything that you enjoy and is safe.

I know how you feel I also get that feeling of wanting to run away and crapness when I don't smoke weed. I've also tried cutting down and stopping slowly but it never works I always end up smoking the same amount. Our situations are different because I was looking to cut down from smoking every day to just weekends instead of quitting fully. But maybe this is something you would consider? I enjoy smoking a lot more now I only do it on weekends and that feeling of routine goes away completely. You cab also set yourself a budget for the weekend and keep spending under control.
Anyway I just did it cold turkey, and that's what I did when I took breaks from it as well. Like others have said having something to distract yourself with especially for the first week or 2 helps a lot. You could try finding a job, seeing friends etc. I used my iPhone a lot playing games and stuff to pass the time when I didn't have anything to do. Also if you smoke your weed with tobacco you may be having withdrawal symptoms from the nicotine. Try nicotine patches if you don't like cigarettes. They worked brilliantly for my boyfriend. Some of the feelings you may get when you don't smoke may be from the nicotine as opposed from not having weed and if you can combat the nicotine addiction it will make not smoking weed a lot easier. Hope I helped, good luck. |

thanks a lot for all the advice, i'm having to cut down now (this week at least) as i've blown all my money already! i will try to find a hobby to replace it, but the thing is weed was my replacement for drink, and i'm worried that if i stop bunnin, i'm gonna start drinking heavily again, which is not an option! regards the nicotine, i smoke anyway, but find when im not smoking bud i can smoke anythin from upto 50 a day, which is appalling! however, im sure i will find a way to get through the week somehow, and will hopefully look forward to next weekends session more than usual, thanks for all the advice again!

It looks like you might have a bit more to deal with than weed alone...
A substance or action doesn't need to be 'addictive' for someone to be addicted to it, if that makes sense. If this is something that's affecting your life in a negative way (and from what you've said, it seems that it has)...& if you really want to stop, it might be a good idea to think about seeking some professional help. Things can be hard, and sometimes... that's just what it takes. I would suggest having a chat with your doctor about how you've been feeling, and about your using. It might help<3. I hope that everything works out. <3Ada. I believe thatyou're inherently beautiful : ) |
