Hey guys,

so basically my best friend is an alcoholic and most of my friends smoke a lottt. i've maybe drank two ounces of alcohol in my entire life and that was a few years ago because i was at a party and it was a really dumb thing to do because i was so young.

but now, i'm having urges to drink alcoholic and try smoking. i've never smoked before, but now i'm starting to think about smoking and drinking.

I don't really want to to try this stuff though because I can see what they do to my best friend...

Is there any way that I can stop the temptations to do them?

Trust me, I've tried. The temptation itself is never going to stop. That's the way life is. We're surrounded by temptations. My best advice is to separate yourself from people and situations that might lead you to give into it. I've learned that while I still think about going back to things like that constantly, not being in that environment makes it a little easier to deal with.

I think the best option is removing yourself, or more so removing yourself, from situations where these opportunities would arise. Spend time doing normal things, like watching movies and outdoor activities and crafts with friends that spend their time doing those sorts of things, and you'll probably find that it seems better than sitting around and getting high or drunk, or addicted to cigarettes.

I agree with the above poster, you just have to remove yourself from the situation.

I used to be around my friends all the time while they smoked, eventually I started taking drags because I figured why not, and I regret that so much now. Anything that you think will be "fun" usually just ends up making you look stupid, especially drinking. Way too many people have called me drunk telling me the weirdest stuff, that you know they're only saying because they're wasted.

Just leave.
