Thumbs up smoking :/ - March 21st 2009, 11:08 AM

i had my first cig when i was 8, but i like completely didnt bother with them after.
and in year 7, i started for about 3 weeks; only 3 cigs a day.
and the same in year 8.

and now im in year 9, and iv had about 6 cigs a day, apart for weekends.
and i recently brought a pack of 20 that would last me a few days,
but my teacher convercasted them and i was really scared she was going to tell my mam, well i came home from school and my mam showed no signs of knowing (phewwww!)
well anyway ... i really do like smoking,
im not one to act all hard and that with a cig,
its just ... i look cool :P and i like the smell etc.
and i dont want to stop, but i dont want to get addicted.

and tbh i dont plan to tell me mam ... yet,
she could rather completely bann everything from me,
and put me in other school (no dout she wouldnt)
or she could be okay with it, because she started smoking around my age.
and some of my mates told there mam and shes okay with it, like she lets them smoke as long as its not in front of them, etc.

hmmmmm, i dont know what to do liakk,

Re: smoking :/ - March 22nd 2009, 11:42 AM

To be honest with you, my advice would be to consider stopping now before you get yourself into a situation where you can't. I understand that you're not smoking a huge amount, and therfore probably don't see it as much of a problem, right? And right now myabe it isn't a problem for you but a lot of people start off like that then get hooked.

I'm not going to sit her and and.. "omg don't smoke!" because at the end of the day, some people choose to smoke and that's fine if that's what they want to do.

It seems that if your mother smokes and a lot of your friends, then you probably already know the risks involved?

The only thing i would say is that smoking just because all your friends do it is a bit ridiculous. If you all your friends start doing something else, something more dangerous and stupid, would you do that as well? It seems like you have your head screwed on, so you probably wouldn't. But make sure you are your own person and not easily lead by people who will go off on the wrong track.

As for your mum, it's up to you whether you want to tell her or not. It doesn't sound to me like she can critisize you too much, since that would be rather hypocritical, but maybe she sees starting as a mistake, and most likely wouldn't want the same for you.

At the end of the day, you'll probably do what you want no matter what i say. But, please remember that smoking does more harm than you probably realise. You're young and healthy, why would you want to risk getting smoking related illnesses later in life? It's really not worth it.

Re: smoking :/ - March 22nd 2009, 01:27 PM

I agree with Elle. I started smoking when I was 13. I'm now 19; and trying to quit and it is the hardest thing I have ever had to do.

I told my mum that I had started smoking. She was ok with it; and said she'd rather know than me be sneaking out at all hours for a cigarette; as I was only 13. So she let me smoke in the house. At the time I thought that was great! But now; I'm really struggling to quit and think it may have been easier if she'd have tried to get me to quit then.

I think whilst you are on such a low amount each day; though you enjoy smoking (and I know its hard as you say you enjoy it because so do I!) you really should consider quitting.

I figure you're Brittish. Remeber that it isn't even legal for you to smoke for another 5 years. The age restriction is in place for a reason. Smoking is exceedingly adictive and harmful to your body. I firmly believe that if tobacco was founded now it would be an illigal substance due to it being so addictive and harmful to the body and the atmosphere as well.

Remember; it says "smoking kills" on the packets for a reason.

Re: smoking :/ - March 22nd 2009, 01:44 PM

Hey,
i started smoking at a young age too, and i started with a few a week, then to a few a day, and then it gets more addicting and i ended up smoking 20 a day, i've cut down a lot now, but its taken me about 2 years to do that.

To be honest, smoking dosen't look cool, at all. i started smoking because of stress and then got addicted, i'm sure a majority of other smokers will tell you, just like any other addictive habit, get out whilst you still can, if i added up all the money i've spent on fags in the last 7 years, i'd be able to go on an amazing holiday.
So In stead of spending the money on cigerrettes, put the money a side, and once a month go buy some new clothes or get your hair dyed or something, surely that would look cooler than inhaling thousands of poisinous chemicals?

Take care
x

Hey,

You live in "Hullywood" right? Well, to be honest, smoking doesn't make you cool wherever you are. I can imagine it being harder to be 'in' or 'cool' up there, just to clear something up you know the damages smoking does to your body? And at such a young age, it's a shame to see you waist yourself to be cool by smoking

Look, I'm not you, and I'm certainly not someone you'd listen too but you should really quit smoking. I mean, you can be cool other ways...

We all gotta have our spot to belong and our time in the spot-light, you just need to get it the right way...

Okay slightly disagree with the above post, Don't replace smoking with drinking, replacing one self destructive habit for another, is just going to land you in a harder place and an addiction to alchohol.save the money, or spend it on clothes, make up, shoes, whatever.

Ah, you didn't see the true meaning behind it.

I know it's not good to do that, but I mean if it's THAT important to be 'cool' than drinking is better than smoking.

Re: smoking :/ - March 22nd 2009, 04:44 PM

Oh please. Smoking does not make you look cool in any way. Millions upon millions of people smoke and it's not something shocking or amazing to see when someone does it. At your age, it would probably actually make you look unattractive. You're 13 years old. There's no reason for you to be smoking right now. Keep yourself busy with activities and friends you love to get your mind off smoking. Smoking at such a young age can make you develop illnesses later on in life in your 20s and if you've ever seen young girls who've been smoking for a while, they don't look very good. I'm not saying all this is going to happen to you, but it's very likely that it can. Don't pollute your lungs like that.

Re: smoking :/ - March 22nd 2009, 05:30 PM

Quitting smoking is SO HARD. I've tried to cut back, but it's bullshit. You smoke more when you cut back.

I love smoking and theres nothing like it. Holding the cig in my hand, feeling it fill up my lungs and watching the smoke leave my mouth. But you need to quit before it gets out of hand.

Gum is a good alternative. If you like smoking, try weed, it's less harmful but it DOES get you high which you may or may not like.

Tell yourself you'll smoke cigarettes only at parties or when you're drunk/on weekends maybe. You can do it, all it takes is a LOTTT of will power.

WHAT? That's the most ridiculous thing i've heard in a while. "Try smoking weed instead" hmm. OP, no, don't switch to weed. Most people smoke weed with tobacco anyway, although i've heard it's different in the states but i don't know about that. So yeah, it's only adding to your problems.

And to the person who said replace it with drinking, that's a ridiculous idea. Drinking at 13 is not a good idea. And using it to replace smoking is an even worse idea.

Nah... in North America most people smoke weed by itself, and a few people mix it with tobacco (batch) if it's a small spliff.

This isn't a topic about weed, so please don't go off-topic.
