What do you think about smoking? - November 18th 2011, 10:43 PM

I personally just started smoking today, and it helps calm me down when I'm stressed. (Clarifying: Just tobacco.)
What are others opinions about it?

It's stupid, that pretty much sums up my opinion of smoking.

Nicotine is very addictive (it can be compared to hard drugs like crack and cocaine). I really don't think it should be legal. I have smoked once but I'm never going to again.

I hate the smell, the smoke makes my asthma go off, and my namesake died of lung cancer in her 60's. If she hadn't smoked I would have been able to meet her. I freaking hate tobacco.

I personally think you don't just start in a day. If today was the first time you smoked, quite simply advise you to not do it again.
Its addictive and stupid. And I say this as a smoker. If I had to stop tomorrow, I would, (But I'm stupid, so probably won't.), but not everyone finds it that easy to stop. There are better things to do when you are stressed out. Much better.

How about talking about the things that stress you out on here? Thats got to be better than filling your lungs with tar....

It's stupid, gross, and highly addictive. From a daughter and granddaughter of two parents and a grandfather that smoke cigarettes, I've seen the effects that my parents and grandfather experienced. Yellow teeth, tooth decay, bad breath, coughing (my dad has permanent bronchitis), and on top of all that... they spend way too much money on cigarettes that could be used for other important things. My grandfather actually has to wear dentures now and lives with emphysema (a lung disease). So please. Don't start smoking tobacco it's disgusting and as stated above, it ruins people's lungs, looks, and their wallet.

I just don't like it. It kills faster and produces so many problems for that person. I know that it calms people down but its just not good health wise and the smell of it is so powerful it makes me gag. Try not to start, its horrible for you.

Honestly, stop while you can. I'm 15 and a smoker, it's expensive and it's really not worth it. You're paying to slowly kill yourself painfully pretty much.

Re: What do you think about smoking? - November 19th 2011, 05:33 PM

I don't like smoking and feel uncomfortable when people smoke around me even though a lot of my family smokes. When I was little I used to get asthma attacks from smelling the smoke and now that my asthma's less bad, the smell just gives me headaches, but I wouldn't want to start smoking and make my asthma get bad again. My aunt got lung cancer and she was a smoker, and then my father got lung cancer as well, which is why I probably feel so strongly about it. My father also has emphysema and while I don't know if it's from smoking or something else, I know that the smoking doesn't help it. My mom had bronchitis at one point and she still coughs so much. I also believe my parents were lying to me when they said they quit. Actually, it's obvious that they did, and my mom's still always complaining about the price of cigarettes amongst other things, arguing for smokers. So I really don't like smoking at all. =/ I get scared that a smoker is going to get cancer or some other medical problem.

It doesn't bother me unless you're smoking like a pack a day or more. Then it's a little ridiculous. But people who have never smoked a day in their life have gotten lung cancer, so it doesn't matter to me.

I've found the one who completes me.

I grew up watching my grandparents so I saw first hand the long term effects. My grandpa lost his larnx to cancer so I could never understand what he was saying, now he doesn't speak at all and my grandma had emphysema. They both stopped the day my grandpa was diagnosed with cancer, but even if you barely do it it's a stupid idea.

I hate cigarettes. All of my grandparents died from either smoking or second-hand smoke. Time to find a new stress reliever.
