My dearest friend.. - August 20th 2012, 05:56 PM

This thread has been labeled as triggering, particularly on the subject of eating disorders, by the original poster or by a Moderator. The contents of this thread might therefore not be suitable for certain sensitive users. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

So I have a friend, and she is basically my sister. She knows nearly everything about me (as much as I'm willing to share with one person), and same with me knowing her.

However, she makes me more depressed than anyone ever has had the ability to. To preface, I have an E.D. (I don't eat) and that is what this is about.

My friend is much shorter than me; me being 5'7 and her being 5'2. And she is *so* much smaller. She wears the smallest clothes ever. And that usually doesn't bother me on most days.

However I was recently video chatting with, and she was going on and on about how her mum was doing measurements on her, and how she has "such a tiny waist" and how her mum was amazed with it, and she didn't know how to take it. I'm sitting there like "Are you actually serious right now? You're complaining to a girl who starves herself to lose weight and feel good about herself about how small your waist is? Give me a break!"

And she'll go on about how she has to eat *so much* just to maintain her freakishly low weight. Like, cool story bro. I'll listen while I'm over here torturing myself with pictures of food and skinny people. Yeah, alright. I totally get it.

I don't want to tell her not to talk about these kinds of things, because we are both there for each other no matter what. And she always says "When your back in soccer, you'll feel better about yourself." ..Okay, but my legs won't be better for soccer until winter at least (had bone surgery on my knee, and tore ligaments in my ankle falling down the stairs). Ughh it's just so frustrating.

Hey Abigail,
I'm sorry to hear that your best friend is treating you like this. Have you ever told her about how you feel when she talks about her body? Does she know that you have an eating disorder? I'm pretty sure if you talk to your friend about how she's making you feel, she wouldn't be treating you like this. Well my main point in this post is just to tell her how you feel, and in my opinion, if you do tell her, I would do it in person because sometimes saying stuff like this online could have a negative effect. And that's all I have to say, good luck with your friend and I hope my advice helps out! If you need anymore help, advice, or just wanna chat, feel free to send me a PM or VM anytime

Hi there, thanks for your help

I have told her, but not seriously. I joke off *everything* that bothers me, but I have told her I guess lol. If she says it again, I will definitely have a serious talk with her. She just acts like my eating issues are ridiculous.

She does know I have an eating disorder (garsh, it's weird typing that still). She was the first to know/figure it out. So you'd think she'd figure not to say anything..
