my brother and my band - April 13th 2009, 07:57 PM

well today we went out for a family meal, my parents asked me how my band was going and i said not very well cause my guitar player is usally busy so my brother goes ill play for you and i was like yeah sure.

thing is i find it really weird, is it normal to feel this way?

hes 21 and im 17. we havent really had much of a relationship so i guess im creeped out to opening my feelings up to him because thats what the band is.

and all the other band memebers are my age so itll be delving into my life like ill find it weird when sex and drugs and stuff like that comes up cause its my brother.

There's nothing wrong with it especially if he's good

Imho, his talent plays a very small factor in it all. It depends more about what kind of person your brother is.
You say you don't have much a relationship, but maybe that's his way of trying to bring youse two closer.
You say you're worried the band will turn..somewhat dysfunctional if he joins, but remember, it's still you and your friends' band.
It's what yous say that matters, your brother is just playing guitar. If he does ask for any changes of any kind that you're not completely comfortable, then remember, you can just tell him no, he has no power over the decisions you and your friends make.
I hope this helps =)

Hey Matt,

It may be uncomfortable to have him around for a bit, but after a while I'm sure it could really help both your relationship with him and practice with the rest of the band. You guys could practice a lot more when your main guitarist can't be there, and remember that your brother just wants to help out, not take his place.

And when sex and drugs come up, just act normal. I'll bet he's heard it all before anyway

The great artists of our time are the ones who created something timeless. But it was never them defining it that way.
Everyone has a story. What's yours?
