This Girl - April 25th 2009, 04:22 AM

Btw this is a long thread so that ones that can't be arsed to read the long threads can just leave now. I hate it when people only answer the short threads.

I work at stables and there's this 15 year old girl who does work expierence there because she's badly bullied at school. She's extremley unfit and must weigh over xxx. I feel bad for her and introduced her to the other girls at the stables to try and make her feel more welcome.

Anyway, my boss told us to go down to the field to bring in the riding school ponies, it's maybe a full 10 minute walk to the field and the horses were all the way at the back of the field (it's a realy huge field), so i said we'd climb the fence as it's a shortcut. All of a sudden she says "Sorry to be a pain in the ass but my feet and ankles are playing up again and are sore and i can't go in the field". I was abit pissed off that she couldn't have told me this before as now had to bring in 4 horses! She's also been in the field before but thats because my boss went with us and she wouldnt say no to my boss. Anyway, i went in and got the horses and headed back up to the stables, i asked one of the other girls where she was and the girl said "Oh she's away to get Libby"; Libby is another horse and was in a different field, which is sludgier and wetter?!

So i was pissed off that she can go in one field but not the other?! She's used this excuse before but it's because she's so unfit and doesn't want to be embarassed by being short of breath and redfaced, and tbh i couldnt care less if she was i just need a hand with the horses!

So i told my boss cause my boss could tell i was pissed off and she told me she spoke to her and apparantly the girl said "Well i've got a lot of problems at home" THANKFULLY my boss stuck up for me (which she never does) and said "So has Katie, so have i, look we all have our problems, whats that got to do with your ankles?"

I can't stand people that use their issues as excuses. This girl is getting too clingy towards me and is using excuses left, right and centre to avoid doing any work that will make her work. I obviously have to be civil to her at work but im now finding that hard.

Any help? xx

Hi Katie,

I'm just going to remind you that using weight figures is against TeenHelp's Terms of Service. Be sure not to include them in future posts.

Talking to your boss was a good idea. It's important that this girl should know that she needs to actually work while she's at the stables. Hopefully after the talk she'll do her part, but if she starts making more excuses just gently remind her that the job still needs to get done. I would also suggest to her that if she's having health concerns, she should talk to her doctor.

Could it be that she didn't want to go to the field you were both going to go to because she couldn't climb the fence? Did the other field not have a fence and that's why she went there instead? I think there might be something more to this than physical exertion, because she did go to the other field. Could it be that she's not very comfortable around people and that's why she'd rather be alone?

Overall, this is something your boss should deal with. It might take reminding more than once, but I think she'll eventually listen and go along with the jobs required. All you can really do is nudge her along and try and get her to do the job with you. Be firm with her to get her to listen and I'm sure she'll start trying harder.

Do your best to be civil and keep your boss updated.

Nat.

i'm agreeing with strider, it could just be the fence, i'm very dyspraxic and have totally messed up joints, and avoid things such as climbing fences, i don't mind doing hard work and i don't mind physical exerction but if i try do certain things i just can't, or i get hurt, or i just look really dumb...and sometimes it can be really really hard to just be like "look i'm sorry i acutally can't do this" and it's easier to make up an excuse, i've done it myself a fair few times.

maybe you could try asking her if there was a reason she could go to one and not the other, just being really blunt??

Re: This Girl - April 28th 2009, 05:07 PM

(Sorry for posting weight, it slipped out my mind)

I thought that myself about the fence but i don't think that's the case now as on Saturday me, my two friends and her went to bring in the riding school ponies and we got to the GATE, she said "I can't my ankles blah blah". I asked her before we headed out to the field if her ankles would be allright as it would save us alot of time and she said "Ye they'll be fine" but the minute we got to the gate she opted out of going into the field and i said, "Look, i asked you before and if you could have told me it would have saved us alot of time", she didn't say anything so me and my friends went into the field, got the horses and went back up.

I told my boss again and my boss spoke to her and said "Look, if your ankles are bad then you really shouldn't be here". I now find her extremley annoying and cheeky, we were sweeping the passages in the stables and i said someone had to go clean the kitchen as me and my friend did it last week, i JOKINGLY said "Oh noones offering!" The girl then turned round and yelled "I said i'll do it for god sakes!". I just can't be doing with her anymore, i gave her a chance, introduced her to the girls at the stables, tried to get her more involved but im just losing the patience now.
