My dad left me. - November 2nd 2013, 04:03 AM

My dad left me when I was 11 years old, it's two years later and I still haven't got over it. I have depression and I always feel so low. My mother works 24/7 so that my brother and I could have clothes to wear and food to eat. I barley see her. My father doesn't care about me, he just wants money. My parents are trying to get a divorce, my dad doesn't even want to see us. He just wants money from my mom. She barley has enough to keep me and my brother healthy and my dad wants to take everything away from us. I can't stand this anymore. He doesn't even send us birthday cards anymore. I look for him everywhere I go, even though it hurts because I know that he doesn't care about me. I just need help but I don't know what to do with my life anymore. Please help me.

Hey there. Well it sounds like you're in a very difficult situation. Losing a parent (willingly or unwillingly) is never an easy thing. I am, however very glad that your mom had stepped up, and has decided to keep taking care of your guys. Your mom sounds like a hero to me. I'm sure alot of different things are going through your head right now. I want to let you know that since your father seems to be irresponsible when it comes to you guys, he clearly will not be awarded custody of you. Meaning, your mother will not have to pay him money, but instead your father will have to pay your mother money. The only real concern to have when it comes to divorce, is determining who actually owns the cars, house, and other property. While it's only natural to worry about what may happen, you shouldn't really focus on it. From what you told me about your mother, she is more than capable of taking care of these issues.

So what should you worry about, and what can you actually do? Well, the biggest thing you can do is help your mother take care of the things around the house. Clean the house, do some dishes, take out the garbage, vacuum the carpet and clean your room. I know, it all sounds like stupid little stuff, but believe it or not, it will make a huge difference. She will be able to come home and not be stressed out and worry about small things; because her wonderful child has already taken care of them all!

On another note, I'd try to find someone to talk to on a regular basis. For example, at school there should be a counselor or social worker - these people are here for students who are having a rough time. Feel free to schedule a meeting with him/her and sit down and discuss some other things you can do to make things easier on yourself (and your family).

Stay strong and keep your head up.

Best wishes,

I hope you know that you deserve it all. The best, the most honest, the most beautiful purest love in the world. Not only to be loved by others, but to be loved by yourself. To look in the mirror and think "Yes, I'm exactly who I want to be". To speak up and be proud of yourself. To be brave and open. You deserve the nicest and most caring people to walk into your life. You deserve it all, you know. The whole world...
