Tips for making new friends? - April 21st 2014, 11:37 AM

I was just wondering if anyone has any tips/ideas on good ways to make new friends.

I've always kind of struggled with meeting new people, making new friends and starting conversations with people. I always feel like I'm talking far too much about myself and that the other person is getting fed up of it, even when in reality I'm the one asking all of the questions.

I don't have this issue with adults, for some reason they always seem to take to me quite quickly, but with people my own age it's hard.

In this moment, I swear, we are infinite

(1) Join a club/group/team that interests you. This is a great way to not only meet other people, but you'll also have the opportunity to meet people who share your interests.

(2) Talk to your current friends and ask them if you could hang out with them and their other friends. Everyone has multiple groups of friends. You could try hanging out with one of your current friends while they're with another group of friends, thus, exposing you to another group of people.

(3) Talk to your classmates. I know it may be tough to do during school, but take advantage of every possible opportunity that you have - even if it's just making small talk.

(4) When doing group reports, try to work with different people every time. It's natural for us to gravitate to the same group of friends for every group project. However, try to work with different people so that you have the opportunity to meet other people in your classes.
