Are they reading my Journel? - May 11th 2009, 08:37 PM

I have this Journel I love to write its my escape from reality, I have a little book where I write and draw what I want and well basicly as most teenagers I dream about being with the guy I like...

But recently, when I leave it lying about in my room lets say on the sofa and I'm down stairs and my mum or brother is upstairs..it seems to move on to my bed? Or on my dressing table even if their isn't any clutter in my room? My brother was also giving me strange looks at one point of the week...

The thing is my parents say they respect my privacy but I get quite paranoid...I know my brother has read one of my Diaries before...So it wouldn't suprise me if he did it again but at the age of 17 he'd do it again? My mum is in her 50's and would she do it?

I don't know what to do.
But I get scared because in this one their are some embarrasing stuff in it where I fantazies... and things like that, and thats my freedom...

any suggestions?
Nico

My best suggestion would be to never leave it out. Whenever you leave always put it somewhere not visible and not obvious (perhaps under the corner of your mattress like between the boxspring and mattress if you have one) that is easy to get to you (for your benefit)

Sorry, they are probably reading it. Simple as that, ask them. If they are, start blogging like I do, and the ones you don't want them to see, make them private.

Re: Are they reading my Journel? - May 11th 2009, 08:44 PM

Well, my mother is the same. She says she doesn't but I know if I left it out, she would without a doubt.

She's gone through my personal stuff on my old computer.

My siblings would go nuts on it. They would go through it without a doubt

Anyways, I suggest hiding it where they cannot find it.

//OR//

You can make a fake one and keep it out so they don't go looking for a real one. =) So they think they are getting "the dirt".

Unhappy Re: Are they reading my Journel? - May 11th 2009, 09:06 PM

I'm unsure thats the thing...I know something is going on, I don't know what it is but I know it has something to do with my Journel...

I haven't got a padlock on it and that doesn't do much help in my opinion it just lures the mind on to reading my journel.

So I guess I'd better hide it somewhere in my room...

But I feel so violated to a degree like I offically have no freedom in my house...sorry if I keep rambling on but with whats been said I guess its true for the past weeks they have read alot...

thanks Nico x

Re: Are they reading my Journel? - May 11th 2009, 09:15 PM

I know how you feel. My journals are extremely private and I'm constantly terrified that one of my family members will go through them. I can't tell you if your family is reading yours, but I can give you a few ideas on how to keep it private in the future. The most obvious one would be to hide it. Under the mattress or buried in a drawer would be good. You might also want to hide it among other notebooks you have for school, so it doesn't stand out. I keep mine in my pillowcase currently. You can also deter people from reading it if you write unrelated things for the first few pages, like school notes or something. If someone does happen to go through it, they'll leaf through the first couple pages and see that it's nothing interesting, and give up most likely. I also like the idea of keeping two journals - one left out that has boring or fake entries, and the real one hidden. And if all else fails, you can always go to blogging, like Holly said. That wouldn't be my preference, but it's all up to you. Good luck!

Hey Nico,

First of all, I'd like to say that I think it's a great idea that you are writing about how you're feeling and working creatively to express your emotions. That is really an awesome way of expressing yourself.

I'm sorry to say it does sound like your family members are reading it. They are probably just curious and are snooping around, but they should still respect your privacy. I would suggest finding a hiding place for it if you do not want your journal read. Behind a bookshelf, under your bed/mattress, in your pillowcase, under things in your closet or under the clothes in a drawer are all good places.

And if you are into blogging, then there are lots of blogging sites out there. There are even blogs on TH. So feel free to check them out if you feel like it.

Nat.

Girl. You really should have thought about leaving your journal out. I used to hide my poetry folder underneath my bed matress for quite a long time.

If your mom is teasing you or trying to get you to spill the beans on some guy at school who doesn't exist, just let her. You don't have to tell her anything at all. Just keep it to yourself and hopefully she'll give up the bugging.

Now in future you'll know not to leave your journal out. But right now, just don't be bothered by your mom and keep writing like you always do.

If she really starts to be incessantly at you about this, though, just tell her that it's a celebrity and you were just making it up. Hopefully she can handle it and just stop.
