Am i normal for doing this? - May 25th 2009, 09:11 PM

Well, recently i've been more reserved when it comes to telling my friends certain things. Especially when it comes to relationships and guys, i don't know why but i just don't feel comfortable just telling them every single detail. Like if i get with a guy, i never outright tell them, everyone else does and i used to whenever something happened. But now i only say something if they ask, even then i don't feel entirely comfortable just telling them and i'm not sure why. Sometimes i feel like i'm being sneaky by not telling them, they always find out in the end anyway but i don't like going into huge detail, i just don't feel as comfortable anymore telling them stuff as they do if that makes sense.

I never used to have any problem talking about stuff with them but i feel like i've become a more private and reserved person over the past year or so and i was wondering if it was anything to worry about or something..

I don't think it is something really to worry about, sometimes that just happens with people. That you just as a person stop being as open. I know it has happened with me a lot over the last few years. So i think it is just normal, and don't worry about it.

Hey, Nat...
Honestly, it's really none of their business. Sure, friends are great, but you also have to be able to live your own life. If you don't feel comfortable telling them something, don't. You are not being a bad friend, you are not being sneaky; you are simply being private. Everyone is entitled to secrets and privacy.

I've become a lot more reserved also. I guess it's because I'm in high school (a very small one) and gossip travels very quickly and something small always gets blown way out of proportion. If I know the risks, why talk about personal occurances? I don't know if this is your reason, however.

It's okay to be a private person. However, when you find yourself in a bind it's always helpful to have at least one person you can talk to. You don't have to be totally open about your personal life, but if you find someone with confidant potential, hold them near. You might need them in the future!
