Exclamation I'm not sure... - May 30th 2009, 07:16 PM

My best friend of about three years and I just had a fight. All along, its been the kind of friendship where she was the cooler one and i was just the dork. She would tell me if I did something stupid, and make fun of me to my face, but i always thought it was joking. Recently I was absent for about three days, and when i texted her saying i was coming back the next day, she replied with "Urgh its too soon. It was much better when you weren't here." And I replied, asking her what she wanted me to do. Then, about a week later, she told me i was too much of a dork and too annoying, and that i was changing by wearing Hollister/Converse. She left me many mean messages, including the eff word a few times, and calling me a b-tch. She also said that she hopes my life sucks. Then recently, she apologized, saying we were 'cool now' and that she wanted me back as a friend. I don't know what to think anymore.

live laugh lovee. keep smiling.

Hi Lila,

What this person has said you do does not constitute any kind of friendship between the two of you. She is being a bully, and you don't deserve that at all. It would be best if you broke the friendship and looked for some new friends.

You deserve to be treated properly in a friendship. If someone is hurting your feelings, calling you names, and being mean, then they are not being a friend! Even if they apologize afterward, that's still not appropriate. It sounds like even after she apologizes, she continues saying these things. You don't need to be put down by this person.

If you want to wear certain clothes, then go right ahead! Don't let who you hang out with define how you should act or what you should wear.

There are lots of ways to make new friends. Clubs at school or in your community are good options, as well as activities going on in your area. You could volunteer, join a sports team, find out what events your local library is hosting, or take a class that you are interested in. You are sure to find lots of people who will appreciate you for you and treat you properly.

It's your 'friend' who is at a loss here, not you. Take this as an opportunity to meet new people and feel good about yourself.

Nat.

The great artists of our time are the ones who created something timeless. But it was never them defining it that way.
