Does anyone else LOVE being ALONE? - June 6th 2009, 08:05 PM

I love the company of my friends, etc but sometimes i just want to sit and wallow in my own little world. Not in a self-pitying sence (although that can come into it) but just to do nothing or to read or rearrange stuff (Lol)

Anyone else similar? It makes me feel like a right little hermit.

I'm the same. I can sit at home for hours on end on my computer with something to sip all day, food to eat, and music to listen to. And I'm pretty much happy. Don't forget the cell phone though.

I have found though, that I need to get out more. It's not good to be alone. There was a point where I really didn't want to be alone. One morning my boyfriend had to get up at like four and leave for his job. When he left, there was this silence that just hit me. And I started freaking out.

Yup. There's only one person allowed to enter my little world, my boyfriend.
I've been known to avoid friends afew times just because i've wanted to be with ME and me ALONE. I'll plan my days out...read my book for afew hundred hours, surf the net for afew hours, cook difficult meals for myself, take stupidly long showers. I just prefer being alone to anything else (apart from being with my other half) but yeah I feel like it's not right sometimes, but I enjoy it so much that i'm not about to take my alone time away from myself.

Yeah well...good thing i'm a female, because most of the time I AM myown little island away from everyone.

Re: Does anyone else LOVE being ALONE? - June 6th 2009, 09:31 PM

Well, it's split down the middle for me. Basically because I do have two or three people that I love to spend time with. Otherwise, I like to sleep as I've been lacking much of that lately due to some family problems. I like sticking my iPod and just eating for an hour and a half at a local cafe - thinking about things and all of that good stuff. It's good to decompress.
I'm more of an introvert anyhow and do enjoy being alone. Now that I've started my antidepressants I enjoy being around people more, but my personality lilts toward being a little secluded. I get out plenty with the two or three people whose company I really enjoy however.

I love being with my friends and being social but I also need, and crave, my alone time. I used to hate that but now I like being half-half (introvert and extrovert) because it makes me more adaptable to situations. I have friends that don't know how to function or what to do if they have a lot of alone time, and also friends who hate any social situation. So I think I like that I'm in the middle!

Yeashh!! Me time is a must I wake up in the morning, and in the first 30 minutes of getting up, normally in the shower , I decide what the mood of the day is... And it very rarely deviates from that, sometimes Ill just be like craving company and people around me, get on the train to school and talk non stop, other times, I'll think naah quiet day and Ill spend the day looking for quiet places, often in the library and then a quiet evening in too ... The past 3 have been like that actually!

Re: Does anyone else LOVE being ALONE? - June 6th 2009, 10:42 PM

When I was a young child, I didn't have friends. I didn't want them. I'd play by myself at school, and pretty much reject any attempts of friendliness towards me. I just liked being on my own. I'm still very similar, I need a lot of time to myself, but I do have friends now, and once in a while I just need to get out of the house and hang out with them. But in a month, I'd say I only go out and do something with my friends 2 - 5 times. The rest of the time, I do things on my own.

If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life
that will live on in the memories of your loved ones."

Re: Does anyone else LOVE being ALONE? - June 6th 2009, 11:41 PM

I like being alone too much I think.
I'll be at home watching a DVD in my room alone and my sister will bother me and want to come and sit with me and watch it and I get so angry and get into actual crying fits because I want to be alone so much. I'm pretty sure the way I like to be alone isn't healthy because I could spend weeks on my own with no one to speak to and be very happy that way, the only thing that would make me want to see people is when boredom would kick in and I'd want to go out and do something but I could quite happily survive alone. I think spending the majority of my teen years being grounded has helped with that very much so lol.

Hey there,

I think there is always a good in between for being alone and being with the people you care about.

Having alone time is important. It's a time for you to do what you like to do, think about what you like to think about, and just have some general YOU time There is nothing at all wrong with that.

But it is important to keep up your relationships with your family and friends. They are there for you and enjoy your company. It's a good thing to be social and get out sometimes.

It's best to balance the scale of socializing and alone time

Nat.

I guess im pretty much the same - half and half.
I have a close group of friends (four of us including myself) and a few other friends who i don't see very often and my boyfriend. But ive recently become quite irritated with my boyfriend because he wants to see me everyday/ every other day. I know obviously im being selfish because after all he is my boyfriend but while he's the opposite in that way and always needs to see people, i just want to realax on my own.
Ive got used to being on my own as i just live with my mum who works alot and my brother has moved out but i love it.
I like going to parties aswell occassionally but i really have to be in the right mood and then i won't want to see anyone for a while afterwards.

But i think a balance is good, so like Jen said - you're more adaptable in different situations.

Egghhh. Mixed feelings. I mean, I LOVE being around people. I'll have a friend over or be at a friend's house for a few days, and I feel like I'm going about things like normal only with someone else the whole time so it feels a lot more fun :P Even when I'm depressed, I just wanna go out and be around people so I'll forget that I'm depressed (unless I'm REALLY depressed, then I like to be alone). But, for me, I don't get like a zillion people wanting to hang out with me, so I get a lot of alone time without working for it.

But, I think it's important to be cool with yourself and to be able to be happy just hanging out on your own, you know?

I love being alone, I've been alone for the majority of my life. I don't seem to bode well with people and can't hold any type of relationship all that long.

i absolutely and completely LOVE being alone. it allows me to just take in my thoughts and relax. i like watching TV, reading, drawing, listening to music, or whatever. i get along with people fine, but for some reason a lot of the people i have been surrounded by just talk about stuff which i think is so, i don't want to sound pretentious, but superficial.

when i am by myself i can just be without dumb and incessant questions about accessories and shoes. ah!

I understand what you mean and your hatred for superficial things haha. Although that makes me abit of a hypocrite lol.
I enjoy a good girly vain session, shopping and talking about Rob Pattinson lmao. but sometimes it can be boring. I also love to have deeper discussions and get into a great debate. I have this one friend who we will sit for hours talking about good litery books weve read aswell haha

Im so pleased with all these replies.
What do you all enjoy do when you are having "alone" time? (Nothing dirty minded please - keep that to yourself..haha)
I like to read, rearrange stuff, or just sit or lay there for hours on end thinking about anything; a while ago i was learning to read tarot cards when i was by myself but i gave up im very forgetful ...

Yup yup. I often look forward to having a day to myself just to think or write or whatever. I like the quiet and the calm. If I have food, beverages, indoor plumbing, and books, I can be completely alone for 2-3 days and not feel the least bit lonely.

So yeah, if you're a hermit then so am I!

I hear that!

When I'm alone I love watching movies, reading (and re-reading) books, studying art or history, and working on my latest writing project. And watching terrible TV shows.

Yes, I love being alone. I don't get much time alone, having to share a room with my brother. Thankfully our house is big enough we can all spread out when we need to. We have several rooms throughout the house set up to be "quiet" areas that we can escape too. My brother and I are twins, so we get enough of each other at school, going to a smaller school, we have most of our classes together. It's great to be able to go to the sun room or the study to escape from him and the younger kids for a few hours.

We were made to be courageous.

Gotta find the strength to rise
From the ashes and make a new beginning
Anyone can feel the ache
You think it’s more than you can take
But you're stronger, stronger than you know
Don’t you give up now
The sun will soon be shining
You gotta face the clouds
To find the silver lining

There's nothing wrong with feeling that way. While it's a natural part of humanity to be social and surround yourself with people you enjoy being around, it's also just as natural to need some alone time as well. I actually prefer being alone most of the time than I do around people, but that's just me. I think that as long as you remain social and don't spend all of your time alone, it's completely normal.

It's a toss up. I definitely like hanging out with the few people I know. But, I also like hanging out alone. I don't know, there are a lot of things a person can do alone:

Watch movies
Read

But when a person is alone for too long they can get into trouble. LOL.

I love being alone. I spend time with my friends and my guy, but I'm completely happy when I'm alone. It's fun to hang out with yourself! And I've recently developed a love of shopping alone...all of a sudden, it's just better.

Yep, you are not a little hermit. i am the same too. Content to be in my own world and for people to leave me alone.

Even though i say this it comes in kind of stages. Sometimes i feel like i need to be social and have company, but the majority of the time i am fine to be left to my own devices.
