Isolation... - August 10th 2009, 11:37 PM

Hey there. I'm a long time lurker of TH, but I've just recently started an account. I hope this is the right place to put this thread.

Anyways, I've been having some issues with basically all of the people around me. I'm 17 years old, about to enter my senior year of high school, and I've spent the VAST majority of my summer at home, sitting in front of my computer or playing video games. Over the past two years I've lost just about all of my friends for one reason or another, and I'm down to just a few, who are always busy doing other things. I'm also in a complicated long distance relationship, and it adds to the frustration of the mess that is my life, and I often times wonder if I found another way to occupy my time if things would feel a little less difficult. I'd like to get a job or something, but my parents work, I'm car-less, and I'd have no way to get there on a regular basis since I live in a suburban neighborhood where the inhabitants are typically my parents' age or older. :meh:

To add to my problems, because I have time to stew over the things that my boyfriend, friends, and parents do, and I think I've begun to resent them for getting out without me, even though they're not doing anything wrong. I can't help but feel a twinge of jealousy and annoyance every time I hear they're doing something without me. Because my presence is rare at times due to my lack of transportation, people have just stopped inviting me to do things, and I feel neglected. I shouldn't blame anyone, but it still hurts, you know?

I guess I just don't know what to do. Even when school starts again, I'll still be isolated in a way. I'm afraid that I've become a bit antisocial... blah.

It'd be great if anybody had some advice to give me. Please don't leave me hanging like everyone seems to do.

Could you ask your friends if they could invite you to stuff (yeah sounds desperate) and when they do invite you, maybe ask them if they could come pick you up?
Also, maybe there's something else you can do, like an extra-curricular at your school to occupy yourself with and you can meet more people. ^^
I know how difficult it is to be 17 and car-less. I am as well.
Could you maybe ask your parents if they could do something with you?
If you ever want to talk or just rant out someone or anything, you can send me a PM. ^^

I've done that before, but sometimes it's hard to organize things around their schedules.
That's something I've been thinking about, but I don't know what kinds of clubs and such my school has. I'm terrible at playing sports so I stay away from them. But I'll probably try to find something.
It's tough! It really is! You know it. Haha.
I could, but I'm not sure what!
Thank you so much! ^_^
