Best Friend and Boss - October 8th 2009, 04:55 AM

I met Don in February of this year. At first, when he was training at my Arby's to be a manager, I didn't like him. But then, I got to know him and then I found out he was a nice guy. He was funny, and I felt like I could tell him anything in the world and I wouldn't be judged. I know he had a crush on me, but I laid down the law and told him no, that he wasn't my type. Well, after months of getting to know each other, he's become my best friend. We text each other and chat and we even compete on Farmville on Facebook!

Now it just hit me tonight that he likes my boss, always really has and even asked her out, but she won't give him an answer yet. Honestly, I have mixed feelings about it. I'm happy he's found someone, he's such a lonely dude. But then...I feel sad because it feels like I'm losing my best friend. To my boss. Who doesn't really like me.

*sigh* I don't know what to do or think... I really don't want to seem pushy and seem nosy, but it does seem like that. I think that's my hurt lashing out in a different form, who knows?...

Hi Kathryn,

It's really cool that you are such good friends with this guy from work. He sounds like a really nice guy and that you have a lot of fun together. I'm glad that you were able to get past not really liking him at first and then getting to know him better! Often people wont give others that chance, and it really shows how good a person you are to have done that.

I know it can really suck when a friend starts spending more time with someone else. But at the same time, I understand that you are happy for him. It's probably good to have someone like that in his life, as well as have a best friend.

What you need to realize is that no matter how much he likes your boss, it doesn't take away from how much he likes and cares about you as his friend. He may spend more time with this girl if they end up going out, but don't hesitate to text him and phone him up to hang out.

For now, just leave your friend be. He's still your friend and is is allowed to spend time with other people. You two are still best friends, and a relationship doesn't change that.

Take care and all the best.
Nat.
