Leaving the nest - October 14th 2009, 10:53 PM

My mom and I have a weird relationship. Things at one point used to be good but we just can't seem to stand each other anymore. She's constantly trying to start fights with me and over dramatize situations and make me feel like garbage. I recently turned 18 and have been strongly considering moving out. A friend of mine is moving to Ohio and living with his family up there because of his father's passing. He tells me that there's a good chance his uncle would let me stay with them up there and live with them, and it's been a very appealing thought. The only problem is I'm a senior in highschool and school just began 6 or 7 weeks ago.

My main question is: I'm new to this whole " Adult " thing I apparently am now and was wondering that if I were to decide to move up there, with my mom's permission or not, how would I do it? Can I sign myself out and into a new school up there? Can I just move with out having to go through anything or am I suddenly free and in control of my own life as it seems?

It's exactly what I'm considering as well;
except I'm only 17, and I don't quite have a place set that I can go to...
As far as I'm aware, the school system considers you as an adult by the age of 18, so you can sign the registration and transfer papers on your own - so that isn't a problem.
Biggest problem will be money, (getting a job, or perhaps welfare) and how you will tell your mum you are leaving.

Good luck :/
