Can't deal with it anymore!!!! - April 8th 2010, 04:51 PM

Ugh I honestly have no clue what to do anymore I can not deal with my sisters child like behavior. My sister is diagnosed(spelling) Mentailly Retarted (Spelling) she is 20 years old but she acts as if she is 2. Yesterday she wanted to call my grandma at work but my granpa said no so she started fucking crying and screaming and would not shut up....we had to put up with it for like 2 hours before me and my grandpa left the house for a while. Then it turns out my sister called my grandma anyways so she got yelled at for that. When my grandma got home they were talking and everything then my sister wanted a hug but eveeryone was mad at her so she started screaming and crying again for about an hour and this was at 9:30 at night when she is ussually asleep by that time. I also can't deal with that fact that my grandparents go back on what they say with her...like yesterday I got told I could have the left over stuff then when I asked if my grandpa wanted to share it with mew he said no to give half of it to my sister when my grandma already said I could have it so my grandma turned on her word even though I was supposed to have all of it she cut some of it off for her...Now i'm not that mad that she got some it's just the point they go back on there word with her. She is going to be punished for not listening and screaming and it's probably going to be her cell phone taken away which doesn't mean shit because she is going to argue she needs it 3 times a week and by the time the first week is over she'll have it back..It's just not fair. I can't deal with her...She doesn't listen when I tell her to shut her door and she ends up pushing me to the point were I end up hitting or kicking her...I try really hard not to and I warn hewr all the time and sahe chooses to push me to see how far I'll go..Yes I'm 18 and can get in a lot of trouble but I don't which is bad but ugh she just pisses me off to no fucking end and don't know how much of her shit I can take anymore...Shde needs to grow up and act more like her age not like a whinny 2 year old.
Does anyone have any ideas?

I take it that your sister isn't capable of living on her own, and that your grandparents can't afford to hire a caretaker for her? Honestly, I think your only option (aside from seeing a therapist and learning how to cope with your emotions and sister's behaviors) is to get a job and move out.

No she can't live on her own...Dur(sorry if that sounds rude) but if she is acting like a 2 year old when shes tweenty it kinda tells you she can't...They don't want to hire someone to take care of her...she might go to a living home thing but thats not for another five years... I go to a theripist but that doesnt help...I try to control my anger but you have no idea how hard it is...I can't move out for way to many reasons that you wouldn't understand. Thanks for trying though.

Well, the reason why I ask is because many individuals who suffer from mental retardation CAN find employment. In fact, the vast majority (approx. 95%) can either live independently, or with minimal supervision (ex. in their own home/apartment, but with some support when it comes to finances and other complicated things). Also, having a low IQ doesn't necessarily mean that you're going to behave like a bratty two-year-old. People can have emotional disorders while still having high IQ's, and vice versa.

Perhaps you could get a referral to a different therapist, someone who is a "better fit" and able to offer advice/support that is more applicable to your current situation. If you have any friends who live nearby, you might be able to spend the night at their homes every now and then, just to get away from your sister and enjoy some peace and quiet. Otherwise, I don't have any other ideas, aside from the ones that you said aren't possible. I'm sorry that I couldn't be more helpful, and I wish you and your family the very best.
