Hello, Liz.

I used to be a lot like you. During middle and high school, I was constantly on edge when around friends. I felt like I was walking on eggshells, and that one wrong word or response would cause everyone to hate me. Turns out I was being unnecessarily anxious, for the most part. There WERE one or two friends who were incredibly sensitive, and were easily offended... but after observing my group of friends for a few months, I realized that I wasn't the only person who offended those people.

Unless you see a drastic change in your friends' behavior (not facial expressions or anything small like that... big things, like avoiding you for days at a time), just keep telling yourself that you're being unnecessarily anxious, just like I was. =)

Regarding your friends' leaving you... well, I hate to say it, but most people don't like to have clingy friends. Of course, that depends on how you define "clingy"... but generally, it's not a positive trait. Definitely take a step back, and analyze how quickly you bond to new friends. Ask yourself if there is anything you can/should change about your approach to new friendships, so that you won't scare people away with your "clingy" behavior. It would help to do something similar for your older friendships as well... in fact, since you've known them for longer, you may be comfortable with asking those friends if you're being too clingy. Ask them what you can change, in order to avoid pushing them away.

Good luck!
