How do I "Live & Let Live?" - May 4th 2010, 05:55 PM

I find that I'm what people like to call a "worry-wart." If I care about somebody, I tend to stress over even the smallest things regarding them. It interferes with my life... I feel like I'm constantly trying to please other people rather than find ways to please and better myself.

I'm trying to back off a little bit... live my life for me, yet not disregard friends and family. How can I get rid of this overwhelming feeling of needing others, worrying about others, etc and instead just focus on myself? I find my biggest problem is with my best friend, who I live with, who was my boyfriend of a year & a half. I still have this overwhelming "girlfriend" attitude towards him, where its almost smothering, and I really need to just back off and let him come to me... ya know?

Thanks any advice is appreciated =)

One thing that's worked for me in the past is telling myself "They're going to be fine" or "They're going to figure things out". And you know what? For the most part, it's true! =) Of course, if you ever have a friend who says they're thinking about committing suicide, or something equally severe, get someone else involved (ex. your friend's parents, siblings, boyfriend/girlfriend, the local authorities (when appropriate), etc.). EVEN THEN, do not take the burden solely upon YOUR shoulders... because serious situations like that can never be handled by a single person. =D
