Unhappy Pressure - August 12th 2010, 07:04 PM

For most of my life it feels like my parents haven't really expected much out of me, but I didn't realise (without sounding stuck up..) that this was because I was achieving 'perfect grades' and so they've basically left me alone to do my own thing. But recently, I'm finding it incredibly difficult to be committed to my work and I ended up getting really bad grades in the mocks.. I have loads of school work to do over the summer (and when I say loads I honestly mean LOADS) and I promised my parents I'd get it all done in one week but I'm finding it so hard just to complete it, I find the work too difficult to understand and my parents are getting really mad.
I thought this would just be the end of it and they might force me to not go out for a while, punish me or something but my mum CANCELLED OUR FAMILY HOLIDAY because I haven't done the work yet!
I feel so guilty because my sisters were so excited about it and I really don't understand the work.. When I try to talk to my mum about it she says that I'm being agressive and rude and I can't help but get upset I really don't want us to not have a holiday because things have been so difficult for a while..
I honestly don't know what to do.. I want to talk to my parents about it but my dad thinks that school work is a breeze, teenagers get let off too lightly and they practically spell out our work for us and that I'm just being lazy and he keeps mentioning about how if I don't get straight A's then I won't even be considered for university and will end up in a sink job.. I'm getting so stressed out about all of this and I don't know how to talk to them.. Please help!

Your dad isnt right to put you under pressure like that, you can still get into a good college without straight A's and it isnt a breeze to get though school with all A's so good job for doing that for so long! Try telling him that its not easy and you are trying, but youre stressed. Dont stress yourself out too much, just keep a steady pace and finish it as fast as you can while staying calm. Dont forget to take breaks. You can do it!

Since your parents don't seem to be too helpful, have you considered contacting a tutor? Maybe even an older student who did all this work last year? If your parents are going to claim that school is a breeze, then maybe they should be more willing to answer your questions or help you find a tutor. =/ Honestly, it sounds like they're just expecting way too much from you. You know your limits, so don't stress yourself out to the point where you can't function at all! I've done that before, and it's definitely not fun. =(
