Tirck-or-treating - October 11th 2010, 01:31 AM

Marcus and I used to be like best friends, and we would hang out constantly until we started middle school. He's gone to a Christian private school since he was in third grade, and I've always gone to public. We met when we sat next to each other on the bus when I was in first grade and him in second. Since we both started middle school, we haven't really seen each other. We kept our tradition from elementary, and we always would go trick-or-treating together. He came by my house around 2:30 today, and asked if him and I could go together again. I haven't talked to him since Halloween last year. I told him sure, and I've just now remembered that I already promised my friend Emily it'd be just her and me. I don't want to leave Marcus alone with his little sisters, they are brats to him and I know that they do not get along. I can't leave Emily alone though. I promised Emily we'd go together when I had to miss her party in May, but Marcus and I promised we'd go together every year when I was in first, and him in second grade. They do not know each other, both of them would be mad if I brought someone else with me, and I know that Marcus wouldn't like Emily, and Emily wouldn't like Marcus. What can I do?

Well you could always ask Marcus and Emily if they would mind. You never know if they would be mad or not and you do not know if they wouldn't like each other. I thought that about a few of my friends and one day I got all three of us together and we were all great friends. Just talk to them and tell them the situation.

You could also just perhaps try going trick or treating at two different times. Like you and Emily go at a certain time and you and Marcus go at a certain time.

Always remember to put your happiness first.

i would just tell them both the situation and see how they react. they are clearly both good friends of yours, so it shouldn't be too difficult to get their understanding. i've also been torn by two different people who didnt know eachother, and we ended up doing something together. yes, it was awkward, and it won't happen again, but it wasn't actually that bad. they should understand that you have different groups of friends, and that you do feel torn between them.

You promised Emily first, so that commitment comes first. You could talkt to Emily about it, if it would be OK to bring him along, or you could offer to something else on Halloween day with Marcus.

I like this suggestion. =) Perhaps you could go trick-or-treating with Emily from 6:00-7:30, and Marcus from 7:30-9:00, or something along those lines.
